'The Flash': Grant Gustin Teases a 'Cliffhanger' in the Season 6 Finale - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

With just three episodes remaining in The Flash Season 6, things are heating up, and it is anyone’s guess how the story arc will conclude. But one person who knows how it all will shake out is the star of the show, Grant Gustin. In an interview with TV Line, he teased that season 6 will end on a cliffhanger.

Grant Gustin talked about the Team Flash dynamics

Before Season 6 Episode 16, “So Long and Goodnight,” Gustin told TV Line that the episode “changes the dynamic of the team and the West-Allen family moving forward.” Now that the episode has aired, viewers have been clued into what Gustin meant.

In “So Long Goodnight,” one of The Flash’s nemeses, Rag Doll resurfaced. But this time, the super-bendy metahuman was not after the Scarlet Speedster. Instead, he nearly succeeded in taking the lives of both Joe and Cecile.

Joe deduced that Rag Doll was acting on the orders of Joseph Carver, the mega-rich baddie with ties to the crime syndicate, Black Hole. Due to the police captain’s rigorous investigation into the organization, Carver saw him as a threat to be eliminated. So, in order to prevent further attacks that could blow back on his family, Joe decided to enter the witness protection program and remain gone until Black Hole and Carver can be neutralized.

“The West family and Team Flash [are] going to be altered for a while because of what happens with Joe and Rag Doll,” Gustin reiterated to TV Line.

Grant Gustin teased a cliffhanger finale

Gustin revealed in the TV Line interview that The Flash Season 6 will consist of just 19 episodes due to the production shutdown from the coronavirus pandemic. This is a considerably abbreviated schedule in comparison to the 22-23 episodes that usually air in a typical broadcast season. Even though The Flash has been cut short this season, fans can still hope for a satisfying conclusion, according to what Gustin told TV Line. The actor said this:

There was going to be a big Thawne cliffhanger at the end of what this season would have been, but that’s not going to be the cliffhanger we get. [Episode] 619, “Success Is Assured,” is going to end up being our finale, so we’re going to have a different cliffhanger than originally planned. But the cliffhanger at the end of [episode] 619 does serve as a pretty good finale.

TV Line interview with Grant Gustin

As The Flash continues to speed toward the season 6 finale, viewers can expect the excitement to build even more. In an earlier interview with TV Line, the showrunner, Eric Wallace, teased what is to come at the end of the season. He said, “There will be tragic consequences to learning the truth about Mirror-Iris…Consequences that will send the season in a new, even more dangerous direction for Team Flash.”

The Flash airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
