WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Flash #758, by Joshua Williamson, Christian Duce, Scott Kolins, Luis Guerrero, Hi-Fi and Steve Wands, available now.
In 2017's The Flash #26 by Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter, Barry Allen and Iris West were taken to a dark future by Eobard Thawne. The villainous Reverse-Flash gave the couple a glimpse at their future, showing them their twin children, Don and Dawn Allen would grow up to become supervillains. Since the Tornado Twins are typically superheroes in DC lore, this was a shocking turn for Barry and Iris' children. At the time, all Eobard revealed was that Don and Dawn had grown evil without their parents there to guide them.
The Tornado Twins then returned in The Flash #756, when Reverse-Flash recruited them for his Legion of Zoom. There, readers learned the siblings had destroyed Central City in their future, and that they resented their father. Worse still, it was actually Thawne who groomed them into supervillains, teaching them all they know about their powers. But how did it all happen? Well, in The Flash #758, it becomes clear why Don and Dawn Allen turned evil -- and it all connects back to Crisis on Infinite Earths.
In The Flash #757, Barry Allen's life was attacked on all sides by the members of Thawne's Reverse-Flash Family. Now that Barry realizes his worst enemy has taken their rivalry to the next level, he makes sure that those closest to him -- Iris, Wallace and Avery -- are all safe, and then he tries to get ahead of Thawne to find and stop him. One of his first stops is his old home, where he lived with his parents before his mother was murdered. But once he arrives in the abandoned house, Barry is attacked by his future children, who are now in the present thanks to Reverse-Flash. And it's when the children finally face their father that we learn how they came to hate him so much.
The origin of Don and Dawn Allen is tied to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Before the start of the 1985 event, Barry Allen had briefly retired and started a life with Iris in the 30th century. It was during that time that Don and Dawn Allen were conceived. However, Barry left Iris and his unborn children to take part in the first Crisis, battling the Anti-Monitor to save the entire Multiverse. And, as DC fans know all too well, Barry would end up making the ultimate sacrifice to save all of reality. After this, for decades, the Scarlet Speedster was dead, lost in the Speed Force. Though eventually, he was able to return.
Don and Dawn reveal in The Flash #758, this is exactly why they despise their father. He was only with Iris in the 30th century for a month before he left to fight in the first Crisis, a battle that ultimately claimed his life. Therefore, he was never around to raise his children, to teach them how to use their powers or to inspire them to become superheroes like him. Worse still, when he came back to life, he didn't come back to visit them, meaning that they never actually met their father before now.
In Barry Allen's absence, Eobard Thawne filled the Tornado Twins' fatherly void. And the Reverse-Flash not only raised them to become supervillains, but he also used them as a secret weapon against the Flash.
