Flash Movie's DC Comics Story Confirmed By Director | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

Details on The Flash's story have been confirmed by the DC movie's director. Ezra Miller joined the DC Extended Universe as Barry Allen aka The Flash many years ago, with his debut coming in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. At the time, Warner Bros. announced a solo film for Flash that was scheduled to be released in 2018, but it lost multiple directors and release dates instead. Now, The Flash is finally making progress under the direction of Andy Muschietti.

The director of IT and IT: Chapter Two might seem like an unconventional choice for The Flash given his horror background, but he's continued to tease what fans can expect from his DC blockbuster. Even before Muschietti was part of the film, multiple attempts to crack The Flash had it borrowing from the Flashpoint storyline. Muschietti has since confirmed his movie is adapting the iconic Flash comic story but that it will also be different from the comics.

This has left fans wondering how different The Flash will be, but Muschietti has confirmed some important details of Flashpoint will remain. He recently did an interview with the Argentinian radio station Metro 95.1 and Twitter user ordern_67 shared quotes of what he said online. The interview and quotes were originally published in Spanish, but here's the translation of what he revealed regarding a key Flashpoint story point staying in the movie:

It is a story of time travel: Flash travels back to try to save his mother. It is a spectacular action movie but it has a big heart.

The Flash Movie Barry Allen Ezra Miller

For those who haven't read Geoff Johns' 2011 Flashpoint event, the basic premise is exactly the same as what Muschietti intends The Flash to follow. Barry Allen travels through time to stop Reverse-Flash from killing his mom, but the world is drastically different when he returns to the present. Not that it should be surprising that Muschietti is keeping this set up for The Flash, but fans no longer need to wonder if that will be the case. Depending on how the adaption goes, The Flash can be the perfect origin story for Barry and set up the DCEU's future.

Muschietti might be following aspects of Flashpoint, but it has already been revealed how he's changing things: Michael Keaton will return as Batman for the time-travel/alternate reality story. The Flashpoint comic story sees Thomas Wayne become Batman, but the movie will change this approach by potentially having an alternate reality Batman become part of the main timeline. This should immediately signal the repercussions of Barry's actions to the Scarlet Speedster since he had significant interactions with Ben Affleck's Batman. Thanks to this mixture of inventiveness and sticking to the source material, The Flash is shaping up to be quite the exciting DC movie.
