The Flash star Tom Cavanagh recently opened up about Nash Wells and whether this is the final version of the character.
Tom Cavanagh’s role on The Flash has become something of an in-joke among fans, with new versions of the Wells character frequently appearing to assist the team in their battle against a whole host of supervillains and metahumans. Fans originally saw him portray a truly villainous Reverse Flash in the first season before the writers used the multiverse to bring Cavanagh back as different versions of Wells. But the most recent incarnation, Nash Wells, seems to have stayed put following Crisis On Infinite Earths.
The Flash star Tom Cavanagh recently appeared on Zach Braff and Donald Faison’s Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast to discuss his acting career and his role on Scrubs when Faison asked the star about Nash Wells and the multiverse. Cavanagh explained that he feels he doesn’t know enough about the lore and mythology behind the series, pointing out that Faison knows more than him about The Flash. But when it comes to Nash Wells’ place in the multiverse, the star explained that if there needs to be a new version of the character the writers can easily include one. So maybe this iteration of the character isn’t as safe as some fans had originally thought.
“Here’s what’s ridiculous about doing a superhero comic show — I run into people like you and I’m just so inferior with my knowledge. You know more than me. I’m not exaggerating, I’m not trying to play dumb. I understand by listening to you that you have a better grasp of the whole thing than I do. I feel like — as you guys know when you do a long-running television show — if there needs to be another Wells, there can be another Wells.”
Do you think Nash Wells is the last version of the character? Do you like Tom Cavanagh’s continuing role on the show? Sound-off in the comments below!
Here’s the official synopsis for Grant Gustin’s The Flash season seven:
Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master (Efrat Dor) victorious and still-at-large in Central City, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton).
With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), and Nash Wells (Tom Cavanagh), as well as the Flash’s adoptive father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight)…Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he’ll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team—and his marriage—apart.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton.
