Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Flash season 6, episode 15 "The Exorcism of Nash Wells."
The Flash is quickly finding its way to recreate the Speed Force as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is turning to his future daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) for help. By using the Spectre's powers during Crisis on Infinite Earths to access the Speedster power source, Barry accidentally poisoned the Speed Force. Even though it played a key part in helping reboot the Multiverse, it was also the final instrument that corrupted the complex entity. With the Speed Force dead, Barry's speed will disappear bit by bit before he is no longer a Speedster. But this also goes beyond Barry since it will affect every Speedster in the Arrowverse. Following the 14th episode "Death of the Speed Force," Barry and the team is pursuing the idea of creating their own artificial Speed Force.
Having realized that Eobard Thawne a.k.a. Reverse-Flash (Tom Cavanagh) could do it, it inspired Barry in trying to create his own. With Eobard possessing Nash's body, due to the Crisis reboot leaving the villainous speedster as only a spectral existence, Barry, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) united together to save Nash. During their encounter, Eobard tried to push Barry into using the remaining speed he had in his system by bringing up Iris (Candice Patton) and Barry's future daughter. Still traumatized by her death in The Flash season 5, Barry almost gives in before finding the strength to get back in control.
Together, they save Nash and get Eobard's spirit out while not knowing if this is the last they have seen of Barry's nemesis. But by bringing up Nora, it gives Barry an idea in how to pursue their goals in creating their own artificial Speed Force. One of the things that Nora always used during her visit in the past was her Speed Force journal. While it played a limited role during Nora's arc in season 5, The Flash didn't explore the depths of it. One of the biggest aspects of her journal was the so-called "time language" that Eobard taught her. Given that they only scratched the surface of XS's journal, it left the door open for it to play importance down the line.
Towards the end of "The Exorcism of Nash Wells", the journal resurfaces as Barry brings up the fact that Eobard taught Nora how to create her own Speed Force. Whether or not this method leads to Barry somehow seeing Nora again remains to be seen. However, the idea that The Flash season 6 will get to use a big element of Nora's journal makes it for a potentially strong payoff. Her journal appeared all the way back in season 4 before Nora revealed her true identity as she was seen writing passionately in it. But it's unclear whether they'll succeed in creating an artificial version of the powerful inter-dimensional source.
This plot might also allow the series to explore the time language even further, to some degree. However it's created, the ways they do it will both come with benefits and consequences going forward in the Arrowverse. This will ultimately affect every existing speedster, present, future and potentially those in the new Multiverse. With The Flash being on a 2-week break, viewers will have to wait till Tuesday, April 7 to find out where the plot is going next for the attempted rebirth of the Speed Force.
