The Flash: 10 Saddest Deaths On The CW Series To Date - Screen Rant

When The Flash premiered in 2014, Barry Allen was a completely normal Crime Scene Investigator with a close family unit and not many friends. Since becoming the Scarlet Speedster, he's built up a close circle of allies, metahuman and regular folk alike.

Just like in real life, Barry and the other characters have lost friends and family over the past six years. Some of these losses have been deeply personal. Others have affected their lives in different ways. These are the saddest.

10 Francine West

Francine was the estranged wife of Joe West, mother of Iris and Wally West and the posthumous mother-in-law of Barry Allen. Appearing most prominently in the second season with a brief appearance in season three, she helped set up Wally's arrival, who would later become the hero Kid Flash. Francine left Joe when Iris was very young. This meant that the mother and daughter duo did not see each other until the former was dying from a terminal illness.

While Francine was not the most important character to the overall storyline, her death had ripple effects long after it occurred - with Wally dealing with losing the only parent he'd ever known and Joe struggling to move on when beginning a relationship with his longtime friend, DA Cecile Horton.

9 Dante Ramon

Dante was Cisco's overachieving older brother with whom he'd had a difficult relationship both prior to and during the first season. Dante appeared in a handful of episodes as the Ramon brothers slowly began to reconnect. After all, while you may not always be on good terms with your siblings, they are family at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, just as Cisco and Dante had gotten to a good place, he tragically died in a car accident with a drunk driver. To make matters even worse, Dante had absolutely no influence on this event - it happened due to Barry Allen's actions with Flashpoint. This caused Cisco to become moodier and in a darker headspace than what had been seen up to that point.

8 Harrison Wells & Tess Morgan

While a cavalcade of Wellses have appeared throughout The Flash, one that has not been explored in great detail is the "original" of sorts; Harrison Wells of Earth-One. In the episode "Tricksters," Harrison and Tess are stalked and murdered by Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash. Thawne steals Harrison's likeness to impersonate him and continues to do so for a further fifteen years.

Due to Thawne's choice of disguise, he has completely ruined Harrison's reputation after confessing to the murder of Nora Allen while still maintaining the illusion. In another timeline, Harrison and Tess founded the successful Star Labs, a future which was cruelly taken away from them.

7 Ronnie Raymond

Ronnie, the first of many love interests for Caitlin Snow, was initially presumed dead from the particle accelerator explosion that provided Barry Allen and many others with their powers. Prior to the explosion, Ronnie worked at Star Labs with Caitlin, Cisco and "Dr. Wells," among others, playing a key role in the construction of the particle accelerator.

Many months later, after being discovered alive and fused with Professor Martin Stein as Firestorm, he marries Caitlin. However, their happiness is short-lived after Ronnie heroically flies into a singularity to save Central City from being destroyed, dying for real this time.

6 Nora West-Allen

Barry and Iris' speedster daughter from the future first appeared as an unidentified "Mystery Girl" during the fourth season. Her identity was revealed in the finale. With an expanded role in season five, Nora displayed both the best and worst qualities of Barry and Iris.

In the case of emulating her father, Nora placed her trust in the same wrong person, Eobard Thawne, which led to tragic consequences. A torn apart family was shocked and angered by Nora's deception. Thawne returned to power and ultimately, Nora paid the price for interfering with the timeline by being erased from existence.

5 HR Wells

This lovable, though very eccentric author from Earth-19 was the resident Wells during season three. Like fake Wells and Harry before him, HR formed a close bond with Cisco Ramon. Furthermore, he also became close friends with other characters such as Barry, Wally, Joe and Iris.

Although considered inept or inadequate due to his lack of scientific knowledge, HR proved his worth to Team Flash. A master motivator and generally upbeat presence, he brightened season three, which was very dark in tone. In the end, HR went out like a hero, saving Iris West's life from the villainous Savitar.

4 Harry Wells

Not counting Eobard Thawne impersonating Harrison Wells, Harry is the longest-running and the true original iteration of the character in the ArrowverseHighly intelligent, he is blunt and acerbic on the outside, though underneath, he is a kind, caring man who loves his daughter more than anyone.

Appearing as the primary Wells in seasons two and four, with a flashback cameo in season five, Harry's presence was a familiar one for fans of the series. However, as a result of Crisis On Infinite Earths, Harry was killed alongside many other inhabitants of the original multi-verse. His consciousness now exists in the mind of Nash Wells, the newest doppelganger to join the series.

3 Eddie Thawne

Eddie, a main character in the first season, fulfilled many different character roles on the show. A police detective, he was partnered with Joe West while also secretly dating (and later becoming engaged to) Joe's daughter Iris. He was also the romantic foil to Barry Allen.

Rather than taking the easy route of giving Eddie negative qualities so the audience would root for Barry, the writers made him a genuinely good person, justifying Iris' decision to be with him. Sadly, Eddie never made it to the altar as he committed suicide in the first season finale in order to erase his descendant, Eobard Thawne, from existence.  That being said, is anyone ever really dead on The Flash?

2 Henry Allen

Barry's father Henry is played by John Wesley Shipp, who played the title character in the 1990 Flash television series. When the updated series began, Henry had been wrongly imprisoned for fifteen years for murdering his wife Nora, in front of their son. Knowing his innocence, Barry regularly visited his father and updated him on his life. Their heart-to-hearts are meaningful as both a father and son and as two actors who have played The Flash.

After being released from prison in season two, Henry reconnected with Barry in the outside world, including sharing some important family history. Of course, no television series is entertaining when the main character is in a happy emotional state. Thus, Henry is heartbreakingly killed by Zoom in the Allen Family's old house with Barry bearing witness once again.

1 Nora Allen

Technically speaking, Nora Allen has been killed multiple times on The Flash. Just like Barry, it gets no less painful with each and every time. Despite being long-dead, she is perhaps the greatest influence in her son's life. Nora inspired Barry to become a CSI. The Speed Force, source of Barry's power, takes on her appearance. Additionally, she is the namesake for her granddaughter.

Aside from Nora's on-screen murder in season one, actress Michelle Harrison has played multiple variations of the scene. This is mostly because of Barry's time-traveling shenanigans with a memorable reinterpretation in season six, with the Speed Force's image of Nora dying in The Flash's arms.
