The Flash: Why There's No New Episode This Week | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

There will be no new episode of The Flash this week, as the show is on hiatus until April 7. While The CW has not announced an official reason for the break, it is presumed to be due to production delays caused by the spread of the coronavirus.

The second half of season 6 of The Flash had already seen a number of delays. The longest of these, a two month break around the holiday season, was due to the Crisis on Infinite Earths event and the series finale of Arrow. The Flash also skipped a week on March 3, so as not to compete with the Super Tuesday Election Night coverage in the United States.

This latest delay stunned fans, with the advertisements following "The Exorcism of Nash Wells" saying that The Flash season 6 would return on Tuesday, April 7 , three weeks after the most recent episode aired on March 17. It is presumed that The CW is trying to avoid airing all of the episodes that are currently complete before production can resume on the current seasons of all their on-going superhero series.  Currently, The Flash, Batwoman and Supergirl have halted production, while Black Lightning and Legends of Tomorrow have already finished shooting for the year.

Unfortunately, it remains unclear just how long it will be before The Flash and the other Arrowverse series resume production. Most of this year's filming has been completed, with The Flash having 20 of its 22 episode order filmed and ready to undergo post-production editing and special effects work. Despite this, there has been some talk of shortening the seasons for the various Arrowverse series or airing the season finales later this year, as soon as filming can be completed.

Some have speculated that the new series Stargirl, which was scheduled to premiere on The CW on May 12 in Legends of Tomorrow's timeslot, might be pushed forward if it appears that The Flash's hiatus will run longer than expected. Produced for the DC Universe streaming service, the long-awaited series centering around a teenage girl who becomes the unexpected heir to a superheroic legacy was originally scheduled for release in August of 2019. It is now planned to premiere on May 11, with new episodes airing on DC Universe every Monday, before airing on The CW on the following Tuesday.

This seems unlikely, however, given how little of The Flash season 6 remains to be filmed. Even with the delays, there should still be enough episodes complete to fill the gap until Stargirl's premiere. Unfortunately, the knowledge that new episodes are on the way is cold comfort to those Flash fans eager to see the story of season 6 continue.
