Jesse Quick was a surprise hit with fans of The Flash, but her current status in the Arrowverse doesn’t look good. As Harry Wells’s daughter, Jesse Wells spent a good amount of season 2 mostly being a character who played off of Wally West, with the two of them becoming a couple for a little while. This all changed when she was exposed to the Speed Force, officially becoming the Arrowverse’s version of Jesse Quick. The character appears to have been erased from the Arrowverse post-Crisis — is it possible for Jesse Quick to return on The Flash?
While she was never a pivotal figure in the show, Jesse appeared in a fair number of episodes in seasons 3 and 4 as Jesse Quick, usually to assist with Barry getting out of a particular jam or trying to take a more proactive role in fighting the main villains. She filled the role of the main speedster on Earth-2 off-screen and strong ally to the team on-screen, making her a particular fan-favorite.
In the season 8 premiere of Arrow, the Anti-Monitor destroyed Earth-2, presumably killing Jesse Quick and Harry Wells. Even if they had been off-world at the time, the Anti-matter wave consumed the entirety of the multiverse except for the Vanishing Point during Crisis on Infinite Earths, meaning that Jesse was certainly dead by then. After Oliver and the Paragons manage to recreate the multiverse, Cisco confirms in the mid-season premiere of The Flash that Harry and Jesse died and didn’t come back on Earth-Prime.
Cisco based his knowledge of Harry and Jesse’s death on the collapsing of the multiverse, but it’s hard to trust Cisco when viewers know there’s still a multiverse. Even if she’s not on Earth-Prime (and Cisco hadn’t thoroughly explored Earth-Prime at that time), a version of her might still be out there somewhere in the new multiverse.
While it’s happening in a much different way, The Flash has already confirmed that Harry Wells managed to survive, with every version of Wells currently living in Nash’s mind. This means that they might still be able to deal with Jesse’s off-screen death. While she doesn’t have a doppelgänger’s brain to live in, this is a sign that the writers aren’t completely committed to killing off these characters. There’s no confirmation from a more authoritative source that there wasn’t a version of Jesse Wells created in the new multiverse, so the door is left open just a crack for her potential return.
Right now, the obvious assumption is that Jesse died in the destruction of Earth-2, but there’s always the chance for her to return. With actress Violett Beane being a regular on God Friended Me, her lack of availability has written her out of the story for a while. By not showing Jesse Quick’s death and bringing back Harry Wells, The Flash has left just enough doubt about her death that they could bring her back if ever the right opportunity presented itself.
