Viewers who have a standing date with The Flash may feel a tinge of disappointment on April 7, because the series is absent from its usual Tuesdays at 8 p.m. time slot. Here’s the scoop on why The Flash has disappeared, what is airing instead, and when the show will return with new episodes.
Why has ‘The Flash’ vanished from The CW lineup?
The Flash Season 1 Episode 1 hinted at Crisis on Infinite Earths with a headline plucked from the future. It read, “Flash Missing Vanishes in Crisis.” Now viewers are experiencing a crisis of their own because The Flash is missing from its regular time slot.
The CW has not aired a new episode of The Flash since ‘The Exorcism of Nash Wells’ on March 17. Unfortunately, since the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has paralyzed the entertainment industry, the network has had to revise the broadcast schedule and push new episodes of The Flash to later in the year. Alas, fans will have to wait a while longer than expected to see how things shake out with Team Flash in the back end of Season 6.
The CW joins other networks and studios that have had to revise broadcast calendars and halt production. The viral outbreak and subsequent self-quarantining best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control have caused ripple effects in Hollywood and beyond.
What will replace ‘The Flash’ on The CW tonight?
Although The Flash series won’t air on April 7, fans can still get their fix during the Supergirl episode, Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1, which will air at 8 p.m. instead of The Flash. That Supergirl episode will kick off an encore of the Arrowverse five-part special crossover event that originally premiered on The CW in December of 2019 and wrapped up in January of 2020.
Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 2 will air immediately following Supergirl on Tuesday. Part 3 will air on Wednesday, April 8 at 8 p.m, and the crossover will conclude with Parts 4 and 5, which will air on Thursday, April 9, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. In the crossover, heroes from the Arrowverrse series Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Black Lightning join forces in an attempt to save the multiverse.
When will ‘The Flash’ return with New Episodes?
The next new episode of The Flash, which is Season 6 Episode 16, ‘So Long and Goodnight,’ will air on Tuesday, April 21 at 8 p.m on The CW. Fans can expect to see more of the story unfold as the Mirrorverse plot heats up and Team Flash gets closer to building an artificial Speed Force.
‘So Long and Goodnight’ and the subsequent episodes of The Flash Season 6 will likely provide some resolutions to looming threats and tee things up for Season 7. Until The Flash returns to The CW with new episodes, viewers can stream previous episodes anytime on cwtv.com and catch up on prior seasons on Netflix.
