In The Flash season 5 finale, Captain Singh (Patrick Sabongui) revealed that he knows Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is the Flash. David Singh, who has been on the show since the series premiere, has been a recurring character across all six seasons - and has even appeared in a few episodes of Arrow. As the captain of the Central City Police Department, Singh has been the boss of both Barry and Joe West (Jesse L. Martin).
Throughout the series, Singh has shown that he's a character who's deeply loyal to the police department and to protecting Central City. His cooperation with Team Flash over the years has proven him to be a capable ally. In the final episode of The Flash season 5, Captain Singh's role in the show changed when he told Barry, Joe, and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) that he had accepted a position as the new chief of police. After choosing Joe to be his replacement, Singh surprised them all by referring to Barry as "Flash". Instead of explaining how he discerned the truth about Barry's identity, he simply stated, "Come on, Barry. I'm a detective too."
So how long has Captain Singh known the truth about Barry? The Flash season 5 finale is the first time that he's ever acknowledged that he was aware of the Flash's alter ego, but it's likely that he's known Barry's secret for a while now. Looking back at past episodes, there is plenty of evidence that indicates that Singh already knew. A fan has put together clues that helps to figure out exactly when Captain Singh learned the truth (via Reddit), and it goes all the way back to season 3. It's even possible that Singh figured out Flash's real identity by the end of season 2.
In The Flash season 3, Singh had reasons to have concerns about Barry's work, yet he did nothing more than occasionally criticize his CSI. It was pointed out by Barry's colleague, Julian (Tom Felton), that Barry had a tendency to disappear in season 3. This would have been a reason enough to fire Barry, but Captain Singh kept him around regardless. Later, when Barry was accused of murder in The Flash season 4, he had no choice but to fire him. However, Captain Singh offered a passionate defense for Barry at his trial. The prosecution then brought up Barry's unexplained absences and reputation for tardiness, and pointed out that Singh would ignore them. Singh was attacked for enabling Barry's behavior by not disciplining him. It's a fair point, as it was odd that Singh was so lenient with Barry. Unless, of course, Singh did know at this time about Barry's secret life as Flash.
Based on this evidence, it seems that Singh knew that Barry was the Flash by season 4, and season 3 at the earliest. It's possible that he put the pieces together late in season 2 when they fought Zoom (Teddy Sears). A connection to Barry and Zoom could have been inferred from their brief interaction in a battle at the police department and the fact that Zoom curiously didn't kill him. Barry's association with S.T.A.R. Labs may have also provided Singh with an additional clue that helped him to figure it out. After all, as Captain Singh has said, he has detective skills of his own, so it's not hard to believe that he have could have uncovered the truth years ago and simply chose to say nothing in an effort to avoid any liability issues.
