WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for "Death of the Speed Force," the latest episode of The Flash.
The latest episode of The Flash, "Death of the Speed Force," saw the return of Wally West to Central City. And along with his newfound zen attitude, Kid Flash also brought with him plenty of new abilities, some of which even made the Scarlet Speedster himself jealous. Let's breakdown all of Wally's new powers on The CW series.
TIME REMNANTS
As the episode opens, Kamilla and Caitlin realize that a helicopter is in danger of going down over Central City. Before they can alert the Flash, they notice a speedster is already on their way to the scene, and as Barry enters the room, it's clear that it isn't him. The camera cuts to Kid Flash darting his way onto the helicopter, using several time remnants to save the passengers and then take apart the vehicle before it can crash.
The ability to use time remnants was made famous by Eobard Thawne in the show's first season, when he utilized this ability to keep his dual identity a secret from Team Flash. Reverse-Flash would later use an army of remnants in Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 to attempt to stop the titular heroes from reversing the effects of the Spear of Destiny.
LIGHTNING MANIPULATION
During Wally's welcome home party, he shows off a new trick that allows him to manipulate lightning into any shape he wants. After making a lotus flower and impressing the onlookers, Barry comments that he wants his protege to teach him the ability. Though Wally doesn't showcase the power again, hopefully, it'll get some play in the future.
Speedsters playing with lightning isn't new to The Flash. Since early on in The CW series, Barry has been able to throw the bolts he generates as he runs as projectiles. The skill has come in handy for the Scarlet Speedster when he's come up against foes who he isn't able to take down with speed alone.
While it was a nice reunion, the real reason Wally returned to Central City is that he felt a disturbance in the Speed Force. Since he left on his walkabout, Kid Flash has gained a special connection with the source of his powers, one that allows him to tap into it with ease. Wally mentions that this newfound skill lets him see the future of speedsters, which include his children and Nora West-Allen.
It's this connection that enables Wally to feel the sickness the Speed Force is dealing with before Barry. Now, as Barry tries to create his own artificial power source, it'll be interesting to see if he's able to create a connection as strong as his protege had with the original version.
Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/CT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer.
