Like its sister shows, The Flash, which is inspired by DC Comics material, is produced by Berlanti Productions. The production company delivers a wide range of content on The CW and beyond. There is boundless potential to extend the universe even further with new heroes, villains, and storylines.
It remains to be seen how The Flash will continue to play into the grand plan, post Crisis. The Flash was the second series in the Arrowverse to premiere and is the longest-running show in the shared TV universe now that Arrow, which ran for eight seasons, has ended. With The Flash approaching the back end of Season 6, fans may fear that the end is near. For now, they can look forward to a few more adventures with Barry Allen and Team Flash.
‘The Flash’ backstory
Barry Allen, the forensic scientist also known as The Flash, was initially introduced to the audience on Arrow before he was struck by lightning and imbued with powers. The built-in fanbase gave the series an initial leg up, but fans quickly found that The Flash could stand on its own.
In the show, Barry works with a group of friends and colleagues affectionately known as Team Flash. Each member — whether human or meta-human — brings their own particular set of skills to the table. They work together to fight crime, save lives, and come up with catchy nicknames for metas.
Season 7 and beyond
The show’s dynamic storylines have kept viewers coming back for six seasons. The Flash fanatics won’t have to wait around to find out if the series will be back for a seventh season because The CW has already decided the show’s fate with regard to the fall lineup.
As reported by Deadline, The CW has renewed The Flash for the 2020-2021 broadcast season, and Season 7 will launch this fall. The Flash currently airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. While it is uncertain if the schedule will change, the series definitely has a place in The CW’s fall lineup. Now, fans are wondering if The CW is planning to bring back The Flash beyond the 7th season.
Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash on the show, divulged that Season 7 could be The Flash’s swan song, according to Digital Spy. The digital platform quoted him as saying: “I mean, we’re all contracted right now seven seasons – this is the sixth, so it’s definitely in the back of my mind that next year, even, could be potentially the last season. Who knows?”
Although the cast is not currently contracted for an eighth season, fans can only hope that negotiations are in progress. If the cast, producers, and network can come to an agreement, that would mean The Flash could match Arrow as the longest-running Arrowverse series so far. Time will tell if Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Batwoman, or the upcoming Superman & Lois will meet or surpass Arrow’s record.
How can new fans catch up on The Flash?
The Flash fans can visit CWTV.com to check out select episodes from the current season, which the network posts five at a time. Viewers who prefer to binge-watch the entire series will need to head over to Netflix. The first five seasons of The Flash are available now on the streaming platform. The current season will become available in its entirety on Netflix eight days after it ends.
