Family and friends have started fundraisers to pay for the funeral services for Tatianna L. Morales and Djovany Pierre, the man and woman found dead in an SUV in the water off Boston Harbor on Friday.
Massachusetts State Police on Saturday identified Morales and Pierre as the two people found inside a submerged SUV in the water near the Boston Seaport.
Morales was from New Bedford and Pierre was from Roxbury. They were both 21 years old.
State police and Boston Fire Department drivers on Friday located the SUV in the Reserved Channel leading to the harbor in the Boston Seaport.
Troopers had learned earlier in the week that an SUV had gone into the water near Black Falcon Terminal and 88 Black Falcon Ave., state police said. The SUV was in about 40 feet of water, around 15 feet out from the pier.
The bodies of Morales and Pierre were both inside the SUV. It appears both had been missing since Tuesday.
In a GoFundMe, Yeison Giron, Morales’ high school sweetheart and father to her 1-year-old son, said Morales was a “loving mother” and the “sweetest, caring person.”
Her friends and family are all in great pain and shock, he wrote.
Giron told WJAR she was last seen Tuesday night in Roxbury and was going to pick up her son. Giron told the television station he knew something was wrong when she didn’t.
Family and friends told NBC10 Boston that she went to meet a friend, Pierre, in Boston on Tuesday. They were able to figure out where she was last through a Snapchat video Morales posted, the television station reported.
Ashley Pierre wrote in a GoFundMe for Pierre that he leaves behind a baby girl.
Pierre was an “honest, hardworking and very loving young man and father,” she wrote. “He would always put a smile on your face and cheer you up if you were down.”
The circumstances around their deaths remain under investigation.
