REVIEW: Flash #88 -- "Has To Have Some Kind Of Consequences Sooner Or Later" - Bleeding Cool News

(DC Comics, creative team: Joshua Williamson, Howard Porter, Hi-Fi, Steve Wands)

Have you ever been reading a comic book where the Flash goes into the past and changes things, or watched his show and seen him make time doppelgängers, and thought, “that has to have some kind of consequences sooner or later, right?” Well, this isn’t John Diggle’s daughter becoming a son or a Black Wally West losing his speed. The new villain Paradox has a bit of a Killmonger problem, because while he ultimately created himself, he makes some very valid point and was put into excruciating pain every time Barry Allen tweaked a timeline. Honestly, it should probably make this guy hate Booster Gold much more, but why quibble over details like that? Anyway, The Flash himself barely appears here and it does even more to bolster Paradox’s case against the speedster, as the wreckage we’ve seen in his scarlet wake over the last year or so has not been easily forgotten. Admittedly, the artwork (especially in the time lost place Paradox calls home) might make you think the screen has static, even if you’re reading a print copy, and to have a gigantic chronobehemoth barking about vengeance against the Flash may give you a little Grodd-ish but at least it’s a new legitimate threat … even if you kind of want to root for the new guy to win. RATING: MEH.

THE FLASH #88
written by JOSHUA WILLIAMSON
art by RAFA SANDOVAL and JORDI TARRAGONA
Witness the birth of Paradox! As a hero, the Flash helps as many people as he possibly can…but Paradox shows what happens when ordinary people pay the price for super-powered battles royal. What started as a happy life of family and science turned into a nightmare when the Turtle’s attack on Central City rained down from the future—and now the story of the civilians caught in the crossfire will change the Flash’s life forever!
