The Flash's 10 Most Unlikely Comics Friendships | ScreenRant - Screen Rant

Heroes, like everyone else, need friends to rely on. So many times, fans look forward to seeing the characters of a titular comic come across other characters and bond with them not just as heroes, but close pals. However, it can be said that some of those friendships can incredibly unlikely, like some friendships that occur in The Flash comics.

The Fastest Man Alive has gone through plenty of friendships in the DC Universe, and a good amount has raised more than a few eyebrows. Here are some of the most interesting and unpredictable friendships this character has had.

10 Winky, Blinky, And Noddy

The Three Dimwits in a three stooges style lineup

While fans of all ages know about Barry Allen, they sometimes forget that he wasn't the first Flash in the Flash Family. In the Golden Age of DC comics, there was Jay Garrick, a hero who joined the Justice Society and fought crime as the Flash in the '40s. Among a list of storied criminals, Jay would begrudgingly fight the likes of Winky, Blinky, and Noddy, a trio of criminals who were essentially the Three Stooges.

Although they were criminals, these characters also served as comic relief for Jay. As time went on, the criminals slowly became somewhat friends with Garrick. The trio would even get their own comic at one point, surprisingly enough.

9 Worry Wart

The Worry-Wart goes off to war

There are times where people joke about worrying so much, it becomes a superpower. Well, for Ebenezer Jones, that was more than true as he was a man who worried so much, it was discovered that it was contagious enough for someone to manipulate Jones and use him to pull off heists.

Thankfully, Garrick was able to find a cure for Jones's ailment and they become pals. The comics often see Jones going to the Flash for help on certain problems or issues, big and small, that constantly rise up in the life of the Worry Wart.

8 Captain Cold

Captain Cold freezes the Flash

As the Silver Age of comics arrived, it gave way for a new Flash, the popular Barry Allen. Barry brought with him a whole new slew of allies and villains and as the years wore on, the villains began to change and evolve. One such foe was Captain Cold,  one of the Flash's toughest villains who would at times have a grudging respect for the Flash.

While maybe friendship isn't the right word for what they share, as Cold always seemed to revert to his villainous ways even after joining the Justice League, the Flash and Leader of the Rogues at times have set their differences aside to save their city. Of course, chances are Cold is more than ready to freeze the Flash no sooner are the cities safe. Their bond is unlikely and tenuous, but it's there all the same.

7 Solovar

Solovar speaks the UN about Gorilla City

Comics always know how to incorporate bizarre characters in interesting manners. Comics have sometimes introduced animal-based characters like the leader of Gorilla City, Solovar, a psychic Gorilla who often turns to the Flash for help with the villain Gorilla Grodd.

While being friends with a telekinetic ape is more than odd, the Flash and Solovar got along pretty well, and the pair develop a solid relationship that strengthens Grodd's hatred towards the Flash as the years wear on. That, and the Flash is the first human to know of Gorilla Cities' existence, further bonding the unlikely pair.

6 Godspeed

Godspeed uses his speed force power

In recent years, Barry has made more and more allies. In Rebirth, a wave of lightning storms give way to a slew of new speedsters, one being August Heart, a friend of Barry's and an officer in the Central City Police Department who Barry trains.

However, August sees his powers as an opportunity to right many wrongs, including the death of his brother. Taking the powers into his own hands, August becomes Godspeed, an almost anti-heroic character. Though their relationship becomes complicated, their friendship prevails.

5 Hal Jordan

Hal and Barry race through the DC Universe

Everyone knows that Barry Allen's been a prominent member of the Justice League and as such has made plenty of friends with the League. From the Man of Steel, Superman, to the Caped Crusader Batman, one that stands out more than others is the Green Lantern himself, Hal Jordan.

While some may disagree, Hal and Barry are pretty different. One is an intergalactic space cop, the other is the fastest man alive. Yet, despite both dying and vanishing from comics for a bit, they still keep a strong friendship that's spanned the years and has led to more than one crossover between the pair.

4 Pied Piper

Pied Piper summons an army of rats to battle the Flash

Despite Barry wearing the mantle of Flash for a good while, his time was cut short when he died during the Crisis on Infinite Earths while trying to stop the Anti-Monitor. As such, his partner, Wally West, the Kid Flash, took on the mantel of Flash for years before Barry returned. At the same time, the former rogue Pied Piper left the villain's life behind.

Unlike Captain Cold, this was one rogue who remained a hero, using his sonic technology to serve as a crusader for the poor. He crossed paths with Wally a number of times over the years, and the pair formed a unique and deep friendship that extended into Barry Allen's life when he returned.

3 Magenta

Magenta unleashes her power on Wally

Like Piper, this is another villain who turns over a new leaf, one of the few Rogues to do so. Frances Kane was Wally West's girlfriend for a while during his days as Kid Flash. However, when she gained magnetic abilities, she became the villain known as Magenta.

Over the years, Magenta and Wally make up and remain friends. Magenta, like Pied Piper, turned over a new leaf and puts her villainous past behind her in the Rebirth era of comics.

2 Bart Allen

Bart Allen races through Central City

Timelines in comics, especially Flash comics, can always end up getting a little fuzzy. In the future, Barry has a grandson named Bart Allen, a kid with speedster powers from the 30th century. Due to time travel shenanigans, something every Flash seems to do, Bart ends up in the present and meets Wally.

The fact that he was able to meet his cousin in the past should raise all kinds of time traveling red flags. Instead, it leads to Wally mentoring his future cousin who would become the new Kid Flash, later Impulse, a fan favorite. This character is now set to appear in the Flash show.

1 Fidel Castro

Fidel Castro teams up with Wally West to take down the durians

Now, over the years, plenty of comics have made questionable decisions and moves that haven't exactly aged well. While some of those moments have since been lost to time, it's still worthwhile to bring them up every now and then. One that stands out is the time Wally West becomes friends with the Cuban Revolutionary, Fidel Castro.

Without a doubt, it's odd to see someone like Castro and the Flash team up, much less battle against shapeshifting aliens, Durlans. Still, the pair managed to be one of the comics' more unlikely team-ups, as Wally helps Castro beat the Durlans, and the Cuban later throws Wally a birthday party in gratitude. Although this friendship has long since been forgotten(for obvious reasons) it's weird that it even happened.
