Content Warning: This article contains discussions of death and loss
The Flash is filled with a lot of heartwarming moments that have stuck with fans over the years. This includes weddings, babies and reconnecting with lost family members. That doesn't mean that all of those moments are happy, just that they are powerful and emotional. Some heartwarming moments are about sacrifice and loss, and what drives them.
That's the nature of a lot of superhero stories, though, particularly on The Flash. The personal lives of the various characters are so intertwined with their heroics that it's almost impossible for one not to impact the other.
9 Joe West Takes A Young Barry In
It's amazing how many superhero origin stories start with an act of horror followed by an act of kindness. This can be seen in the origins of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, and many more. And it's also true of Barry Allen on The Flash.
Barry's mother was murdered when he was quite young and his father was framed for the crime. This left the young boy without a family or a home. Joe West's inspiring decision to take Barry in helped make him into the hero he became.
8 Jay Garrick Arrives
Every time comic book fans find out that a new TV series or movie based on a comic is coming out, they start making a list of characters they hope to see. That has certainly been true in the case of The Flash, with a big one being Jay Garrick.
DC's original speedster has become a mentor to all others like him, including Barry Allen. His first appearance on The Flash was highly anticipated, and having John Wesley Shipp play the iconic character just added layers to the moment.
7 Henry Allen Gets Out Of Jail
Speaking of John Wesley Shipp, the actor, who played Barry Allen, in the 1990s live-action series, his time on The Flash started with the role of this Barry's wrongfully imprisoned father, Henry Allen. It was a smart casting move as he played the part perfectly.
After Eobard Thawne confessed to murdering Barry's mother in Season 1, Henry was eventually released from prison. It was a huge moment for the series, one that absolutely tugged on the heartstrings of every person watching.
6 Thomas Snow Is Found Alive
Caitlin Snow's descent into becoming the supervillain, known as Killer Frost, was all but unavoidable. But like her comic book counterpart, this Killer Frost walked the line between good and evil quite effectively.
For a long time, Caitlin believed that her father was dead. Team Flash eventually tracked Thomas Snow down, reuniting father and daughter in a heartwarming moment. That being said, the moment quickly cooled off when Thomas was revealed to be a villain named Icicle.
5 Joe And Cecile's Relationship
The end of Joe's first marriage was extremely difficult for both him and his daughter Iris, as Francine's departure was seen to affect the future relationships they made. However, Joe's trust issues were gradually seen to improve when he met district attorney, Cecile Horton.
Slowly, the two fell in love after working together on several cases. The two were eventually seen to move in together and announce that they were expecting a baby. For many fans, their relationship showcased several beautiful and heartwarming moments, as it gradually saw Joe open himself up to the prospect of love again.
4 Wally Is Welcomed To The Family
After Iris's mother left, there was a long-standing hope that she would return. She eventually did many years later, long after Iris had grown up and moved on. But her mother showed up with two big surprises.
The first was that she was dying. The second was that she was pregnant when she left, and had Joe's son, Wally West, in secret. While it took some work on both sides, Wally eventually became part of the West family for good.
3 Harrison Wells Keeps Coming Back
Season 1 introduced fans to a new character named Harrison Wells. As the owner and operator of S.T.A.R. Labs, he was a key part of helping Barry sort out his new normal. Unfortunately, the real Wells was long dead and it turned out this was Eobard Thawne in disguise.
Keeping in mind that nothing is ever this simple in any comic book related property, Thawne was killed at the end of season 1. Unexpectedly, a new Wells from another reality joined Team Flash. This has become a tradition each season, one that fans enjoy incredibly.
2 Eddie Makes The Ultimate Sacrifice
Not all heartwarming moments are families reconciling or people having babies. Some of these moments are sad in one way while being inspiring in others. Eddie Thawne's brutal choice was one of them.
Eddie was Joe's partner and was in love with Iris. He was also Eobard Thawne's ancestor. Eddie realized the only way to remove the threat of Eobard was to sacrifice himself, preventing him from existing at all. It was a noble deed, made out of love for his friends, particularly Iris.
1 Barry And Iris Get Married
The road to marriage for Barry and Iris was a complicated one to say the least. It was hard for them to make the transition from long-time friends raised in the same home to becoming romantically involved, but they made it work.
Without question, their marriage in season 4 is the most heartwarming moment in the series because their love for each other rests at the very core story. This was something that fans of the series had been waiting on for years.
