DC's new Flash, Jess Chambers aka Kid Quick, returns in a new preview. They will be featured in the "Flash of Earth-11" portion of the upcoming DC Pride anthology. Each segment of the anthology has been worked on by LGBTQIA+ writers and artists, shining a light on DC's unique roster of LGBTQIA+ characters. One of the most prominent newcomers in DC Comics is Jess Chambers, who first appeared in DC's Very Merry Multiverse.
Jess Chambers went on to appear in DC's Future State event as the Flash of the future. They were the lead speedster of the Justice League and had taken on the mantle of the Flash, which marked the fourth person to do so in DC's history. They are the first non-binary Flash and member of the Justice League. It's clear that they have an important part to play in the publisher's future, it was recently announced that they will be appearing in The Flash. Being introduced into DC's main continuity is a good sign that there are big plans for this exciting new hero.
In an interview with Den of Geek, writer Danny Lore revealed new information about Jess' appearance in DC Pride, along with a new look. Lore is non-binary themself, they have said that their experience of writing DC's new non-binary Flash has been heavily relatable. The "Flash of Earth-11" story is described as "a funny slice of life thing" by Lore, who teases that they will be digging deep into Jess' identity as a non-binary person. Check out the preview for their story below:
The panel shows Lisa Sterle's artwork as Jess Chambers prepares for date night. They are seen doing autographs for some young fans after foiling an attack, probably from the story's villain, Reflek aka the new Mirror Master. Lore confirmed that Reflek is a new disco-inspired version of Mirror Master from the future and is a Black lady who is "cool, mirror, dope." The panel highlights Jess' indecisiveness about their outfit as they prepare to go out, possibly to meet Aquawoman as it was heavily teased in Future State that they could be a couple sometime in the future.
Jess Chambers' story is just beginning as they are re-introduced for the first time since their stunning debut in DC's Very Merry Multiverse and Future State: Justice League. Fans can get excited to find out more about the newest version of the Flash in the "Flash of Earth-11" segment of DC Pride. Additionally, they will be taking center stage as Kid Quick as they join Wally West's Flash Family in his ongoing Flash series. DC Pride releases on June 8.
