The Flash Easter Egg Sets Up A Season 4 Villain Return - Screen Rant

The Flash season 7, episode 5, “Fear Me” featured an Easter egg from season 4, setting up the return of a past villain. The episode focused on Team Flash’s new threat: Psych, a villain who has the ability to amplify fear. To combat his abilities, Cecile Horton amplified her empath powers using the chair created by Clifford DeVoe, aka the Thinker, which was kept in S.T.A.R. Labs’ storage room. Also within the storage room was another piece of equipment created by DeVoe: Samuroid.

Introduced in The Flash season 4, episode 1, “The Flash Reborn,” Samuroid was a combat robot created by Marlize DeVoe for her husband's nefarious plans. The robot, designed aesthetically like a samurai, was capable of intense hand-to-hand combat, as well as flight, and wielded two katanas with the ability to project pulse blasts with a single stroke. With all the tools at its disposal, Samuroid proved to be a formidable threat to any hero, even speedsters. During an attempt to destroy Central City, Samuroid was defeated by The Flash, and it was revealed that the robot was a pawn in DeVoe’s plan. Following Samuroid’s defeat, the robot's remains were stored at S.T.A.R. Labs for further study — where they still remain.

In "Fear Me," Samuroid is visible in the shadows within the same storage room where Team Flash keeps DeVoe's chair. Rather than being stored in one of the many crates, the robot appears to be standing, suggesting it was reassembled after Cisco had finished studying it. Seeing Samuroid inside S.T.A.R. Labs was an unexpected Easter egg for The Flash season 7, and its presence laid the groundwork for this villain’s return: since the robot rests within S.T.A.R. Labs, it could present a problem for Team Flash if it were somehow reactivated.

The Flash samuroid

The Flash has brought back several past villains, particularly after Crisis on Infinite Earths — sometimes in different forms and with different abilities, as shown in Cisco Ramon’s post-Crisis villain binder. Despite Samuroid being a robot, this villain could also be victim to Crisis’ multiversal ramifications, with the potential enhancement of its abilities. In Nora West-Allen’s future, Samuroid’s sword is seen on display in the Flash Museum's Hall of Villains, which implies that that Samuroid was more than a one-off adversary. Perhaps the combat robot fights The Flash again at a later date.

There’s also a possibility that Team Flash could use Samuroid themselves later in season 7 to aid in the fight against their current enemies or as a safety precaution and backup plan for future enemies. Cisco could have reprogrammed the combat robot to make it safer to have at S.T.A.R. Labs; this would explain why the team chose to keep the robot rather than destroy it or send it to a secure facility like A.R.G.U.S. The Flash season 7 has already introduced a number of new villains and has also brought back many past villains. With Samuroid still being around — and seemingly reassembled — the robot being brought back into the fold could make for a very interesting narrative and could change the future for Barry Allen and his team.
