The Flash Recap & Spoilers: S7, E7: "Growing Pains" | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Flash Season 7, Episode 7, "Growing Pains," which aired Tuesday on The CW.

The Flash Season 7 opened with the revelation that Killer Frost was a wanted woman, and law enforcement official Kristen Kramer arrived in Central City to track down and arrest Frost for her past crimes. And as Frost finds herself framed for murder, that plot takes center stage in The Flash Season 7, Episode 7, "Growing Pains."

The the start of the episode, Barry returns back to his apartment after an early morning superhero rescue, where he continues to acclimate to living with the personification the Speed Force resembling his late mother Nora Allen. Finding Nora has prepared a full breakfast for him and Iris, Barry's vibrational energy inadvertently causes a glass carafe to shatter when he expresses discomfort over Nora's presence. His powers begin to react involuntarily due to the Speed Force being restored. While Nora is eager to help, Barry politely reminds her that he needs to visit crime scenes on his own.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Cecile recounts why the governor has tasked Kramer to bring Killer Frost in, with a visibly disgruntled Frost agreeing to lay low as she watches Chester P. Runk run off to investigate a crime scene. Meeting up with Barry and Joe, Chester discovers that a van carrying experimental technology was attacked by an ice-based villain. This villain stole a powerful microchip and murdered the driver. Kramer arrives on the scene and assumes Frost is behind the heist and murder, further fueling her resolve to bring Frost in to answer for her crimes and reminding them she requires the complete assistance of the Central City Police Department.

Barry notices the ice pattern left at the crime scene is a different from the one Frost makes and only consists of dark matter. However, Barry is then surprised by Nora's arrival at the scene, putting his powers in flux again while he impresses Kramer with his revelations. When Nora visits Barry and Chester back at the crime lab, her influence on his powers causes him to lose data on the investigation, leading him to grow frustrated and argue with her. Iris confides in Barry how easy it is for people that live together to frustrate and annoy each other, with Barry tacitly implying he may have been overly harsh with Nora since she moved in.

After learning about Kramer's hunt and the new killer on the loose, Frost is determined to track him down herself to help build up her standing. Frost returns to the dive bar she used to work at to begin her own investigation and hits it off with the new bartender named Mark before seeing a news report placing a bounty on her head because of the crime. This leads into an impromptu bar brawl with the rest of the bar patrons looking to collect. Mark ends up helping Frost and earning a potential date after providing her with valuable information about the new meta. As Frost follows up on Mark's tip, Kramer and Joe arrest Caitlin Snow for Frost's crimes back at her apartment using information from an anonymous tip.

As Cecile assures Caitlin that the blood tests will clear her of suspicion now that she and Frost are separate individuals, the two talk down Frost from breaking Caitlin free when they learn she plans to strike the police station. Incensed by the abuse of authority Kramer is displaying, Joe confronts her, with Kramer admitting Joe is a good cop but must stand behind the badge rather than concerns over his family and friends. Realizing she was set up by Mark, Frost confronts him at the bar where he reveals he's actually a cryogeneticist and used the stolen tech to map her as he secretly studied her.

After a traumatic childhood incident, Mark grew obsessed with the powers and potential of ice and studied Killer Frost, feeling her unworthy of her powers. With the biometric data obtained from Frost, Mark replicates her powers with a set of gauntlets and battles her in the bar as he dubs himself Chillblaine. Chillblaine gains the upper hand by temporarily blinding Frost but she is able to stab him with an icicle when he lowers his guard, with the Flash and Allegra providing medical aid to Mark as she reveals she recorded the new villain's confession. This happy celebration is cut abruptly short, however, when Kramer arrives with the police to arrest Frost.

While Allegra wants to escape by any means necessary, Frost decides she needs to answer for her crimes and peacefully surrenders to Kramer and the police. Caitlin scrambles to bail out her alter ego ahead of sentencing while Barry has a heart-to-heart with Nora back at the apartment the following day, apologizing for his conduct. Barry and Nora acknowledge that she’s different from the Speed Force entity he knew before, and the two vow to take on the mysterious new Forces, thus giving Team Flash their new mission.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh. New episodes air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
