The Flash: DC's Future Is About to be DOMINATED by Deadly Arrowverse Villains - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Flash #768 by Jeremy Adams, Brandon Peterson, Marco Santucci, David Lafuente, Mike Atiyeh, Arif Prianto, Luis Guerrero and Steve Wands, on sale now.

A time-skipping adventure for Wally West brought the fan-favorite Flash to different moments in history when the Speed Force had been imbued in certain individuals. The twist? Wally wasn't just visiting these periods of history, he was inhabiting them. In a truly unique spin on how the Speed Force connects the various speedsters of the DCU, when Wally goes backwards or forwards in time he actually takes over the body of a speedster alive at that point.

The first time Wally did so he entered the body of cave man speedster, but he quickly left that time after quite possibly killing the dinosaurs. The next time he moved through history he found himself in the body of Bart Allen A.K.A. Impulse. And much like the first time, Wally was thrown right into the thick of it as the Dominators attacked him and Gold Beetle.

Who are these classic DC villains and what is their role in the future of the DCU?

Dominators Space Empires

The Dominators first debuted in Adventure Comics #361 by Jim Shooter, Jim Mooney and Shelly Leferman. The alien species were the main instigators of a massive Alien Alliance that invaded the Earth. Their main motivation for doing so was their concern over Humanity's genetic potential to develop powers. But their concern over the metagene was also mixed with greed. They sought to harness the latent potential in humans for their own purposes, grafting human powers into their DNA and mass producing superpowered alien warriors. Ultimately, the heroes of Earth banded together and were collectively able to thwart the plans of the intergalactic villains.

But the Dominators were not quite finished with Earth yet. One lone member detonated a "gene bomb" in the Earth's atmosphere. The bomb would effectively remove the powers of anyone on Earth with a metagene or just kill them outright. But this desperate attempt to remove the future risk of someone else taking advantage of the humans was in direct contrast to the mission of the Dominators. For his transgression, the Dominator who used the bomb was imprisoned by its own people for threatening a potential resource.

Thankfully, Martian Manhunter and a group of heroes unaffected by the bomb managed to find this particular Dominator and extract the information they needed to reverse its effects. Ironically, after the harmful effects were gone a great number of metahumans began to surface, their powers having been triggered by the gene bomb. But this was not going to be the end of the aliens' influence on galactic events.

In the 30th century, the Dominators would come into conflict with the United Planets and by extension the Legion of Super-Heroes. Their obsession with the Earth had not ended and following the dissolution of their Alien Alliance, the Dominators switched tactics, taking on a more subtle approach to conquering the planet that had previously bested them.

They put into motion a thousand year plan to conquer the Earth. The goal was always to weaken Humanity's defenses by destroying the moon and letting the resulting asteroid fallout kill millions of humans. But even the Dominators could not plan for the unexpected. The moon was detonated prematurely and the fallout not only killed millions of humans, but also a significant number of Dominators. They shook off their losses and occupied the planet, but a combined resistance of humans and the United Planets would once again stymy their goals.

The United Planets took the Dominators' home world as a countermeasure, forcing the hostile alien villains to leave Earth and surrender, their dreams of harnessing humanity's genetic potential once again foiled. But while Bart Allen is still far removed from that point of history, the fact that the Dominators are attacking him show that they were not above seizing an opportunity. Speedsters are powerful and Bart is among the best of them. If they thought there was a way to capture him it stands to reason that they would break away from their plans to try and gain an advantage.
