The showrunner on Grant Gustin’s The Flash reveals how the structure of season seven will change thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
As fans of Grant Gustin’s The Flash will already know, the season finale was drastically change because of the pandemic, but showrunner Eric Wallace recently revealed the new plan for the seventh season and how the delay will affect the show’s “graphic novel” format. He told TVLine that the folks behind The Flash are rethinking how the season will pan out thanks to the “narrative unpredictability” of the sixth season’s finale taking place in season seven.
“Because this is The Flash, there’s a huge twist at the end of every season, and that twist is now kind of coming in the middle of the [start of the] season. And that has really affected our storytelling for all of Season 7. Amid the horror and the tragedy of what’s happening with this pandemic, if we can find some kind of lemonade in the lemon, it’s us having to rethink a few things about how a Flash season looks, given this ‘narrative unpredictability’ to the season.”
Fans will remember that season six left Grant Gustin’s The Flash on a cliffhanger with Iris West-Allen trapped in the Mirrorverse. But when season seven arrives, it’ll change up the graphic novel format of smaller stories on the show according to Eric Wallace. He explained that there will be more graphic novels in The Flash season seven but audiences will be surprised by the way they appear.
“There are going to be more Graphic Novels next year, but they’re not going to be broken up in the way I think folks expect.”

Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash. After a thrilling cliffhanger last season which saw the new Mirror Master (Efrat Dor) victorious and still-at-large in Central City, The Flash must regroup in order to stop her and find a way to make contact with his missing wife, Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton).
With help from the rest of Team Flash, which includes superheroes Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), and Nash Wells (Tom Cavanagh), as well as the Flash’s adoptive father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), Meta-Attorney Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet), tough cub reporter Allegra Garcia (Kayla Compton) and brilliant tech-nerd Chester P. Runk (Brandon McKnight)…Flash will ultimately defeat Mirror Master. But in doing so, he’ll also unleash an even more powerful and devastating threat on Central City: one that threatens to tear his team—and his marriage—apart.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton.
