The Flash: 10 Heroes That Can Replace Elongated Man In The Show - Screen Rant

Hartley Sawyer, the actor portraying Ralph Dibney aka Elongated Man, recently came under fire and was dismissed from his role after insensitive tweets resurfaced. With mixed reactions from fans, it was no doubt that his dismissal left a huge hole in the show and the plot for season 7 of The Flash.

What's great about The Flash is that his optimistic and cheerful attitude makes him a good ally for plenty of other DC heroes in both the comics and the show. So moving forward to season 7 of the show, which hero would be great to replace Elongated Man? Here are 10 that are perfect.

10 Cyborg

Cyborg, One Of The Most Powerful Animated DC Characters

In both, the comics and the DCAU Cyborg and The Flash are close friends with mutual respect for each other. Cyborg is among one of the younger heroes in the Justice League and sometimes has a hard time fitting in with the group but Barry makes it worthwhile by being an understanding friend.

It wouldn't be his first appearance in a live-action show with a current iteration in Doom Patrol and a version in Smallville, so building his metallic body shouldn't be an issue and his power set could make a great addition to Team Flash.

9 Bart Allen

Bart Allen aka Impulse in Flash Vol 2 Number 92 from 1994

Bart Allen is Barry's grandson from the future and distinct relative of Eobard Thawne. Like Nora in season 5, Bart travels back in time to fight alongside his grandpa in his prime and prevent himself from aging too fast.

To prevent the theme from being overplayed, Bart could come back with a message for his grandfather that could have to do with the plot of the season, and seeing him in action could be a huge thing for fans as Bart is a much more popular character than XS.

8 John Stewart

Arrow Fadeout John Diggle finds Green Lantern Ring

The end of Arrow left a lot of possibilities for spin-offs and returns for their major characters including John Diggle (Stewart). The last season eluded to John being the Green Lantern and taking on the role following Oliver's death and possibly getting his own spin-off show.

We know Hal Jordan is getting his own show and having more than one Green Lantern show would be nearly impossible so why not have John join Team Flash as the new hero. He's familiar with Barry and the rest of the team and his current and new powerset could be huge for season 7.

7 Joanie Swift

Joanie was introduced in season 3 of The Flash as Cecile Horton's teenage daughter and super fan of Kid Flash. Something the show has done in 6 seasons is introducing or mentioning characters from Flash lore and Joanie is no different.

In the comics, Joanie is a fellow speedster gaining powers after replicating the formula that made Johnny Quick a speedster. In the show, Joanie is an outspoken and progressive character, headstrong like her mother so it would undoubtedly be a great replacement for an arrogant and immature Ralph Dibney.

6 Max Mercury

Max Mercury taking on Professor Zoom

Similar to Jay Garrick, Max Mercury is an older and experienced speedster who serves as a mentor to the younger members like Wally and Bart. He may not be the fastest but his experience with his powers makes him a valuable member of the Flash family.

He wouldn't be taking over the fatherly role Joe West has in the show but he would be a great addition in helping Barry understand his powers more and help him take on Godspeed who is the confirmed villain for season 7.

5 Avery Ho

Avery Ho is one of the newest members of the Flash family and one of the more popular speedsters to come out of Flash Rebirth. She's a charismatic and ambitious character, eager to learn from Barry and even more eager to become the savior of her home in China.

With over six years of experience and being the longest-tenured hero in the Arrowverse, maybe it's time to see Barry take on a mentor role and coach Avery to use her powers and help take on Godspeed as she does in the comics.

4 Darwin Elias

Darwin Elias is very much like Harrison Wells in the comics as an esteemed research scientist and friend of Barry. In the comics, he helps Barry understand his powers and works closely with him on his way to becoming The Flash.

With Tom Cavanaugh (Wells) leaving the show, and Carlos Valdes (Cisco) and Danielle Panabaker  (Caitlin Snow) rumored to be leaving, replacing them with an accomplished and charming scientist can be great for the show.

3 Hot Pursuit

Hot Pursuit is an interesting character because he has been played by several characters and has a mysterious, unexplained past. One Hot Pursuit is Barry from the future who goes back in time to warn Barry about Flashpoint and the other iteration is Patty Spivot from Earth-27.

Both versions of the characters could make great allies for the Flash, with future Barry helping this time instead of threatening to kill Iris again or Patty Spivot using her superior detective skills and forensic skills to help Barry and build upon their already great chemistry.

2 Manuel Lago

Manuel Lago is another character introduced in Flash Rebirth and is one of Barry's childhood friends. He was part of experimentation and similar to Marvel's Deadpool, he gained regenerative powers and increased strength and durability.

What makes Manuel unique is not just his powerset but his skills as a CIA agent and his loyalty to his old friend Barry. With Ralph as the resident detective and fellow super, Manuel is almost perfect for replacing him.

1 Wally West I

Wally West Choice Flash Forward

Wally West has had a rocky time in DC comics. For decades he was Barry Allen's trusted sidekick before Barry's death in Crisis where he became The Flash for 25 years. After the events of Flashpoint, he was erased from existence and came back mysteriously several years later to find his family had been erased from existence, his friends and allies had all forgotten him, and he had been replaced by his younger cousin of the same name.

Introducing a new Wally wouldn't take away from the current Wally and it would make for a great storyline similar to the comics. Seeing him reconnect with Barry and perhaps even retconning some events or filling in plot holes with the return of Barry's forgotten sidekick.
