The Flash Alum Teases the Return of Eddie Thawne | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

A major character from Season 1 of The CW's The Flash could be returning for Season 8.

Rick Cosnett, who played Eddie Thawne in Season 1, shared a photo from what looks like a hotel room on Instagram. "Special announcement coming tomorrow," he wrote, along with "#theflash" and a lightning bolt emoji. While it's not clear what this announcement is just yet, it stands to reason that with characters like Ray Palmer, Mia Smoak/Queen and -- most notably -- Eobard Thawne returning for "Armageddon," Eddie might not be far behind.

Eddie Thawne was introduced in the pilot episode of The Flash as a Central City Police Department detective and the love interest of Iris West. He would go on to become a member of the fledgling Team Flash and eventually sacrifice himself to stop Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash after learning he was destined to become the evil speedster's descendant. Since his death, Eddie has appeared on a handful of occasions, such as a vision in the Season 2 premiere and a flashback in "Flashpoint."

Announced in August, the aforementioned "Armageddon" is a five-part Arrowverse event that will kick off Season 8 of The Flash. In addition to the show's core cast of characters, the event will also feature Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom, Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers/Sentinel, Kat McNamara as Mia Queen and Osric Chau as Ryan Choi/The Atom, among others. According to the synopsis, "A powerful alien threat arrives on Earth under mysterious circumstances and Barry (Grant Gustin), Iris (Candice Patton) and the rest of Team Flash are pushed to their limits in a desperate battle to save the world. But with time running out, and the fate of humanity at stake, Flash and his companions will also need to enlist the help of some old friends if the forces of good are to prevail."

The Flash Season 8 is also poised to introduce longtime DC villain Despero, marking the character's first live-action appearance, and John Wesley Shipp will reprise his role as Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick.
