The Flash Could Solve Earth's Problems Even Better Than Superman - Screen Rant

Warning: contains spoilers for The Flash #775!

Thanks to his super-speed, the Flash has saved countless lives time and again, but his powers are deeper than just going fast. The Flash can tap into the Speed Force, one of the fundamental forces of the universe, allowing him to break the laws of physics. There are some who believe this makes the Flash the perfect hero to truly save the world, even more so than Superman.

Barry Allen has vacated the role of the Flash—at least on Earth, as he has joined Justice Incarnate, the multiversal Justice League. His former sidekick, Wally West, has returned to the role and is trying to reorient himself in a world that moved on without him. Wally is reconnecting with those he loved and has a new job working for Michael Holt, AKA Mister Terrific. As Wally is reestablishing himself, a mysterious sword is making its way across the multiverse, heading to Earth. It finally lands in The Flash #775, on sale now in print and digital. The issue is written by Jeremy Adams, with art by Fernando Pasarin, inks by Matt Ryan, colors by Jeromy Cox and letters by Steve Wands.

The sword gives off an eerie presence, inciting those around to it give in to their baser impulses; only the Flash is immune. Mister Terrific falls under the sword’s control and begins attacking his employee. Confused, he asks his boss why he is doing this; Mister Terrific tells Flash he is doing what he “should have done a long time ago.” Mister Terrific believes the Flash’s powers make him potentially more powerful than Superman, saying the only thing keeping Flash back is the fact that he takes nothing seriously. Mister Terrific continues attacking the Flash, using his T-spheres to disrupt Flash’s super speed. As he does, he says that the Flash’s ability to defy physics via the Speed Force is what makes him truly powerful, and if it could be harnessed, many of the world’s problems could be solved.

The sword, and its dark influence, were revealed to be the work of Eclipso, using it to amplify the negative emotions of those in the sword’s proximity. This explains why Mister Terrific attacked the Flash, but does it explain what he said? Was there a deeper meaning to his remarks, or was he simply blowing off steam? The Flash’s physics-defying powers allow him the ability to easily travel the multiverse (and now the Omniverse), a feat Superman would be hard-pressed to duplicate.

Since the introduction of the Speed Force over 20 years ago, creators have placed greater emphasis on just how powerful the Flash is, and the advantages he has over the Man of Steel. Not only can he travel the multiverse, but time as well. Superman can bust through a wall, but the Flash can vibrate his atoms to where he can pass through it—no destruction necessary. The Flash’s ability to manipulate the Speed Force allows him to absorb and retain knowledge at a rate faster than any regular human. While Superman is no doubt smart and can learn fast too, he is probably not able to read the entirety of Wikipedia in seconds, let alone remember what he read—but the Flash can.

While Mister Terrific’s claim that the Flash is more powerful than Superman may have been Eclipso-induced hyperbole, the fact remains that the Flash has unique powers that give him an edge over the Man of Steel in many ways.
