Team Flash is about to tackle Godspeed properly as The Flash season 7's second and final big bad is coming up. Ever since season 6, The Flash retooled its structure regarding the main antagonist. From the very beginning, The Flash has always had 22 or 23 episodes per season. However, from The Flash season 6 and onward, the Arrowverse show has changed up format somewhat, with each half of a season standing as its own main arc.
Bloodwork was the first villain for "Blood and Truth" while Mirror Mistress debuted in The Flash's "Reflections and Lies." Following "God Complex," which focused on the New Forces, The Flash will focus entirely on Godspeed as the final villain in season 7. Even though Godspeed arrived in The Flash season 5, this won't necessarily be the same iteration, especially after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Since The Flash season 7 has only four episodes remaining, it will be the shortest but perhaps biggest arc the show has done thus far.
As Godspeed comes into the picture again, the reappearance will coincide with The Flash's 150th episode titled "Heart of the Matter, Part 1." Not only does it serve as the first half of the season finale, but that is when Bart Allen, a.k.a. Impulse, will race into the Arrowverse, with Jordan Fisher playing Iris and Barry's future son. Jessica Parker Kennedy will also reprise the role of their daughter Nora West-Allen, a.k.a. XS, and the Flash family will confront Godspeed. So what is known about The Flash's Godspeed thus far?
The Flash's Original Godspeed In Pre-Crisis Arrowverse
The original Godspeed was introduced in The Flash season 5 as part of Nora's 2049 timeline, which was a departure from the comics. In the DC lore, August Heart was Barry's good friend and colleague at CCPD before a Speed Force storm turned him into Godspeed. The Arrowverse's take on August depicted him as a technician who got his speed through a combination of Velocity-9 and tachyons. Despite Nora's timeline being rewritten at the end of The Flash season 5, August (allegedly) began sending Godspeed clones to 2019 to get The Flash's speed.
The Flash's Current Godspeed In Post-Crisis Arrowverse
After Crisis on Infinite Earths resulted in Earth-Prime's creation, Godspeed's timeline has remained a mystery. Following the five-part crossover, another clone showed up towards the end of The Flash season 6. Unlike the others, this Godspeed could talk, revealing that his master wanted to achieve infinite velocity. While that served as the official Godspeed's setup, The Flash season 7 has so far not touched upon the super-villain as the focus has been on the Mirror Mistress and New Forces. The only unofficial way they have set up Godspeed's return is possible through the Speed Force having been restored, hence why Godspeed is only now beginning to resurface.
It is unclear whether or not August is responsible for this or if it's a new villain pulling the strings. According to showrunner Eric Wallace, The Flash season 7 will introduce the real Godspeed without revealing if it is meant to be a post-Crisis August or a brand new player. Since no official casting has been released about the new Godspeed, it's possible whoever is underneath the mask is someone fans may recognize. Whoever ends up being the real Godspeed, it will be exciting to see The Flash season 7 finally tackle the mystery speedster foe after almost two seasons of build-up.
