While The Flash has a lot of enemies, the Scarlet Speedster also has tons of fans in the DC Universe, so much so Central City is home to a museum dedicated to him. However, The Flash Annual #3 reveals one of the newest members of the Suicide Squad and DC Universe is also one Barry Allen's biggest fans: Wink, a punk teleporter.

The most recent issues of Suicide Squad have seen the titular team escaping their increasingly brutal captivity after discovering Ted Kord/Blue Beetle was now behind the team and using it for his own nefarious purposes. Told from the perspective of Captain Boomerang, The Flash Annual #3 sees Captain Boomerang holed-up with the new Suicide Squad -- which consists of members of The Revolutionaries as well as a few familiar faces -- at a former lair of the Rogues. The Flash , who is depicted as mid-carbo-load, sporting stubble and belching, promptly runs in. While a fight breakouts between the Suicide Squad and The Flash, Wink is ecstatic to see the Scarlet Speedster.

Eventually, the Suicide Squad and Flash work things out and the latter sets out to help the former escape, revealing he had a change of heart in regards to Task Force X following Captain Cold's time with the group. The Flash pulls a bus filled with the Suicide Squad towards a prototype aircraft in Death Valley, and along the way Wink explains she likes the Scarlet Speedster because he's not necessarily part of the establishment. Her colleagues, however, disagree, though they don't get too far into the debate before they're attacked by Deathstroke.

Wink, like many people, has had to grapple with sexism and heteronormativism. She and her non-binary partner have almost certainly faced discrimination for being members of the LGBTQ community. Her appearance also draws heavily from punk rock and other anti-establishment ideals, making clear who she is and where she stands in regards to authority that she views as corrupt. Identifying The Flash as an anti-establishment figure is likely why she's so drawn to the hero. To some extent, she's right, as The Flash has generally worked harder than many other heroes to turn his enemies into friends. Still, she also doesn't know Barry Allen, in reality, works with the police on a regular basis as a police scientist/forensic investigator. That would almost certainly be something of which she doesn't approve.

Despite those potential misgivings, in The Flash Annual #3, Barry does a lot that certainly makes him look like an anti-establishment figure. By siding with the Suicide Squad, The Flash is fundamentally working against an establishment force he sees as in the wrong. He and Captain Boomerang work together to defeat Deathstroke and set the Suicide Squad free. While Captain Boomerang is caught and arrested, Flash springs him from jail, reasoning that he's had a difficult life, and brings him home. In the end, Flash -- as a hero -- is about second chances and redemption, regardless of if that means working against the establishment. Wink's love for the Scarlet Speedster is definitely well-founded.
