The Flash: The Legion of Zoom's First Attack DESTROYS Barry Allen's Life - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Flash #757, by Joshua Williamson, Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Hi-Fi and Steve Wands, available now.

As writer Joshua Williamson's acclaimed run on The Flash nears its end, the Scarlet Speedster's greatest foes have been assembled by the Reverse-Flash to form their own team, the Legion of Zoom. But rather than simply confront and overpower Barry Allen, the evil ensemble has taken a different approach in taking down their mutual nemesis, by targeting every aspect of Barry's life with coordinated, simultaneous attacks.

And with the assembled antagonists going through such ambitious lengths in their personal vendetta against Barry, The Flash #757 suggests that Barry Allen's secret identity may have just become knowledge among his most fearsome foes.

Legion of Zoom vs Flash

As Barry prepares for his final showdown against Eobard Thawne and investigates a grisly crime scene, he gets a call from the Central City Police Department Captain David Singh. The call is interrupted by the Turtle attacking the police department headquarters. Upgraded by the events of The Flash: Year One, Turtle is more dangerous than ever since being broken out of Iron Heights by the Trickster to join the Legion. Trickster himself attacks Barry's apartment complex, the teenage villain gleefully strikes with his gimmick-themed arsenal of weapons. Gorilla Grodd launches his strike on the Flash Museum in an effort to destroy the Flash's tangible legacy. Meanwhile, the brother-sister team of Captain Cold and Golden Glider attack S.T.A.R. Labs, Barry's scientific backup that has assisted his superhero career for years.

Turtle's attack hits Barry's civilian career; Trickster literally hits Barry where he lives; Grodd goes after the public representation of the Flash and Captain Cold and Golden Glider goes after the allies of his superhero career. Realizing the full scope of the attack, Barry whisks Iris West, Kid Flash and Avery to safety before they can be attacked at Iris' home. This raises the big question of whether the villains are aware of Barry's true identity as the Flash. Trickster, in particular, had been unaware of the superhero's double life and his attack on Barry's apartment is the most telling that the Scarlet Speedster's greatest secret may be out for another of his sworn enemies.

The biggest question, however, is regarding the whereabouts of the Legion members not seen in the opening attack on Barry. Reverse-Flash was last seen traveling to the far-future to recruit Barry's wayward children the Tornado Twins to join his team. Given the nature of time-travel, Eobard and the Tornado Twins could turn up anywhere, and it's not clear if they had been actively been targeting Iris and the others before Barry's timely intervention. Given Eobard's reputation as a master manipulator who is always looking for a way to twist that knife in the heart of his most hated enemy -- sometimes literally -- the Reverse-Flash is likely waiting for the perfect time to strike himself, and he may very well have told the other villains who Barry really was.

In a matter of seconds, every aspect of Barry Allen's life has been placed under siege by his greatest enemies, with his professional and personal associates all in grave danger. Barry's life could have been exposed by the Reverse-Flash to his villainous team as the far-future foe prepares his ultimate attack on his nemesis. And with Barry willing to cross the line again and kill Eobard Thawne once and for all, his life is in tatters as he faces a run through a fiery gauntlet set up by the Legion. Now, the Scarlet Speedster is in the race of his life to save those he loves as his world burns down around him.
