Future Flash Has Gone So Fast He’s Forgotten How Old He Is - Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers for Young Justice #16 below

The future Flash has finally stopped running from his problems. In the latest issue of Young Justice, Bart Allen, the future grandson of Barry Allen, who is the speedster known as Impulse, has finally opened up about his troubles. The young speedster revealed that not only has he lost track of time through his extensive travels across the multiverse, but he doesn't even know how old he actually is.

Impulse first appeared in The Flash #91 and was created by Mark Waid and Mike Wieringo. Born in the 31st Century as the child of Don Allen, one of the Tornado Twins, and Meloni Thawne, the descendant of the Reverse-Flash, Bart has held the role of both Kid Flash and the Flash. Impulse hasn't had the easiest life, as his metabolism and incredible speed have led to him aging at a rapid pace. His parents sent him to the 21st Century to deal with his hypermetabolism.

In Young Justice #16 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Walker, Scott Godlewski, Gabe Eltaeb, and Wes Abbot, Impulse breaks down his life to Superboy. He admits that he's "not like everyone else. I'm not like anyone else." He reveals that his hypermetabolism and constant time-traveling have actually made him forget how truly old he is. He tells Superboy, "Am I six? Am I nineteen? That's a really freaky thing. Right? I've lost all track of time." He admits he doesn't know who to talk to about the problem, as none of the other Flashes have dealt with the issue before. He says he hasn't stopped running because that would mean he would have to deal with it. Check out this beautiful panel from Walker.

Bart further reveals after fighting Mirror Master and getting stuck in one of his mirror dimensions, he emerged in the future. It's where he visited in the Hall of Justice and saw a future where the Young Justice team had statues that celebrated the fallen young heroes, and got later was admitted to Arkham Asylum. After escaping the mental institution, he ran back-and-forth through time in order to land in a reality with his Young Justice teammates - which he eventually did. Clearly, Bart has been through Hell and back in order to find some semblance of normalcy. It's tragic he doesn't know how he is and is deeply troubled in dealing with time. However, stopping and talking to Superboy about it is a good first step in slowing down and figuring out more about himself. Impulse has a lot to hash out - but with the Young Justice team by his side, he's in the best position to finally get some answers.
