The Flash Is Secretly A Threat To The DC Universe For One Reason - Screen Rant

For all the good that Flash does as a superhero, one trait of his might be the biggest threat to the DC Universe. A pattern of behavior shows that the Scarlet Speedster's giant heart might be putting the fabric of time and space at risk.

Few heroes in the DC Universe have the ability to cover the ground Barry Allen does as a superhero. Thanks to his personal connection to the mysterious Speed Force, the Flash can be stopping crimes in Central City in one second, then lending a hand to the Justice League the next. The Flash's powers enable Barry to embrace his most altruistic parts. Whenever a person is in need, the Fastest Man Alive can be there lightning quick to save the day. Being able to be there for people, especially the ones he cares about is something the hero really values. And yet, that's the sort of thing that makes the Flash's powers a bit problematic.

For example, in The Flash #6 by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, Barry is coming to terms with a difficult discovery by a scientist friend of his who informs the hero that the Flash's Speed Force use is actually creating wormholes in time and space. To prevent further damage to reality, Barry is given a meter to keep his speed under a limit that should cease further wormholes from being created. Unfortunately, Flash is attacked by his old nemesis, Captain Cold, who has a grudge with the Scarlet Speedster. The battle with Flash's frosty foe capsizes a boat with Iris West and Patty Spivot onboard. To get to his loved ones in time, Barry pushes himself as far as he can go, intentionally ignoring the blaring warning signs.

While it’s later revealed that Flash isn’t damaging the Speed Force, the fact that Barry is willing to defy a rule he knows he needs to abide by speaks volumes. In fact, this isn't even the first time Flash has put reality at risk over a loved one, lest readers forget about Barry mucking up the timestream by saving his mother and causing the dreary Flashpoint timeline. While it's honorable Flash wants to save those he cares for, his caring may be putting the DCU at risk.

It’s said that the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, and if anyone has the best of intentions, it’s Barry Allen. Flash is the Justice League’s most important hero because he wants to save everyone he possibly can, and with his speed, he could easily do that. The problem, though, is that Barry tends to think with his heart and that's already been shown to backfire on him. Flash has one of the most consequential powers on the universe around him and he has to be careful about how he uses it. If Barry allows his emotions to overrule his logic, he very well could wind up doing some serious damage to reality. It’s extremely ironic that Flash’s dedication to saving everyone might ultimately be the DCU’s undoing.
