Flash’s Speed Force Gives Him An Unexpected Superman Power - Screen Rant

Thanks to the Speed Force, the Flash has found a way to copy one of Superman's most notable abilities. By pushing his powers to the extreme, the Scarlet Speedster was privy to a technique largely reserved for the Man of Steel.

While Barry Allen and Clark Kent may be friends and teammates on the Justice League, the two have also been rivals when it comes to one thing: speed. The Flash may be the fastest man alive, but even without tapping into the Speed Force, Superman can largely keep up with his red-suited rival. Races between the Flash and Superman are one of DC's most beloved and spirited challenges between its heroes. Sure, Barry and his fellow Flashes generally have an edge thanks to the Speed Force, but Superman's Kryptonian physiology gives him just enough speed to make the Flash sweat it out.

But turnabout is fair play, and if Superman can find a way to compete with the Flash, Barry can use his powers to copy Clark. Allen did just that in The Flash #2 by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato. After encountering a group of clones known as Mob Rule, Barry tries to improve his connection to the Speed Force by consulting a scientist friend of his. The Flash is told that while the Speed Force affects every other part of his body, the one area left untouched is his mind. But if Barry can channel the Speed Force into his brain, he could unlock powerful new abilities, which is exactly what happens when Barry talks to Patty Spivot. Flash's brain suddenly starts processing information faster than ever and becomes aware of everything happening around him, from people going about their business to electronic messages being sent.

Barry has pushed his speed before but rarely has his connection to the power of the Speed Force given him such an impressive boost of power. By channeling the powerful energy through his brain, the Flash can perceive things he wouldn't be able to comprehend otherwise. This application of his power gives Barry an ability usually reserved for the most proactive hero of all and makes the case that the Speed Force allows Flash to beat Superman in a key way. Thanks to Superman's amazing hearing ability and X-ray vision, there's practically nothing in his vicinity that he isn't aware of. The Man of Steel can literally hear and see all. This allows him to intervene in any crime. The Flash might be faster than Superman, but Clark could potentially take out more criminals simply because he's more aware what's going on in the world. However, by expanding his mind via the Speed Force, Barry opens himself up to a greater perception of the world. He can process information at speeds that even Superman can't keep up with. Not only could Barry be just as aware of the same evil-doings as Superman is, he could respond to and take care of them faster.

With this practical application of the Speed Force, Flash found a way to take Superman's power and make himself a better hero.
