DC Comics reveals that the upcoming Dark Crisis: War Zone one-shot will focus on two major Flash characters.
Dark Crisis is a comic book event that explores how DC's legacy heroes handle a crisis-level threat following the Justice League's death. Announced during the Dark Crisis panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Dark Crisis: War Zone #1 will revolve around Flashes Barry Allen and Wally West's respective better halves, Iris West and Linda Park. The book will be told from the two characters' ground-level points of view as they witness the surrounding crisis.
Writers Stephanie Williams and Jeremy Adams will be working on the one-shot, with other contributing creators set to be revealed at a later time. Since the Infinite Frontier era of comics began for DC, Williams has co-written Nubia and the Amazons with Vita Ayala, worked on the Trial of the Amazons Wonder Woman event and currently pens Nubia: Queen of the Amazons. As for Adams, in addition to co-writing Flashpoint Beyond and scripting the animated film Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, the writer currently helms The Flash ongoing series starring Wally West, where he has made a big change for Linda Park ahead of Dark Crisis.
Since The Flash #779, Linda now possesses super-speed powers like her husband. Their children, Jai and Irey, are aware of Linda's new abilities, but she has not told Wally about them as of the recently released The Flash #784. However, the solicitation for Sep. 2022's The Flash #786 teases that the couple will finally discuss the development, saying that Wally is "long overdue for a chat with Linda."
Iris, on the other hand, has been absent from Adams' run on The Flash, and Barry had been missing from the title for months after getting blasted into a dreamworld by Dark Crisis villain Pariah in Infinite Frontier #6. In Dark Crisis, while Superman Jon Kent and Nightwing are busy fighting a Pariah-controlled Deathstroke on Earth, Wally and other members of the Flash Family have ventured into the Speed Force to track down Barry and bring him home. The Flash's "Search for Barry Allen" arc ties into the 2022 event and will run for three issues, with the first two -- The Flash #783 and #784 -- available to purchase from DC as of writing. Speaking at SDCC, Dark Crisis writer Joshua Williamson confirmed Wally West is eventually successful in finding the missing Barry Allen.
Alongside the work of Williams and Adams, Dark Crisis: War Zone #1 also features a main cover by artists Mario "Fox" Foccillo and Prasad Rao, with a variant cover created by Dan Jurgens and Norm Rapmund. The issue is slated to release Dec. 6 from DC Comics.
