With the return of The Flash’s kids, Irey and Jai, Wally West has his hands full with the dynamic duo getting themselves into trouble wherever they go. The kids, although very young, have become quite powerful already and participated in some of Wally’s adventures. With Irey leading the charge into danger, Jai follows along, and with their combined power, fighting bad guys almost becomes as easy as pie for the two. Since they are so young, their powers and abilities have plenty of room to grow and evolve.
With DC’s new focus on the children of their most famous heroes, Irey and Jai have become interwoven into plenty of The Flash’s storylines, even becoming part of the problem or solution to many of Wally’s fights. Irey and Jai could become DC’s next “Super Sons” and become a charming child duo that fights crime with their still-developing powers. The emphasis on their developing powers has given the children plenty of reasons to follow their dad into dangerous situations.
Much like the Super Sons, Damian Wayne and Jon Kent, the West twins accomplish impossible feats of bravery and relish in their excitement and powers. The Super Sons proved it’s hard to keep track of two superpowered kids, but with this new duo, Wally West has to face the challenge of reigning in twin speedsters. Their dynamic is one that many former Super Sons fans have come to appreciate, with Irey being the “rebel” and “trouble-maker” of the two, while Jai is the “sensible” one who tries (and fails) to keep his sister out of trouble. In fact, in The Flash #778 (by Jeremy Adams and Fernando Pasarin), Irey and her friend Maxine are kidnapped when they snuck out of Irey’s house. Jai immediately threw himself into danger to bring his sister home safe, and to save her, he opened his connection to the Speed Force again and got his powers back. The two have already taken down supervillains and saved the universe with the help of Maxine Baker, aka Animal Girl – the daughter of Animal Man. They went up against Eclipso himself and proved to Wally that he couldn’t do it without the help of his children in The Flash #779 from Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, and Brent Peeples. The two saved their dad from certain doom by clearing a path through dozens of powerful beings for Wally to rush through and defeat Eclipso.
After that display of power, their overexcitement and eagerness put them into more and more dangerous situations. As seen in The Flash #783 by Jeremy Adams and Amancay Nahuelpan, Wally West is planning on searching for Barry Allen – who became lost across the Multiverse – but his plans changed when the twins show up. Before any of them knew it, Irey led the charge into the portal ahead of them. With Irey and Jai in another universe, who knows what kind of trouble the two will get up to!
Even though the two of them are so young, DC has created many opportunities for the twins to save the day or be involved in the main storyline in some way. This duo will be around to stay, and with both of them getting their powers back they could become more powerful than anyone could have originally foreseen. With so much development, their future becomes more exciting than ever, and they will play an important role in getting Barry Allen back. The Flash’s children have quickly become a powerful fan favorite, and may just become DC’s next dynamic duo!
