Michael Keaton's Batman Speaks In New The Flash Movie Footage - Screen Rant

Michael Keaton's Batman speaks in the new The Flash DC movie trailer. Starring Ezra Miller as the titular hero, Barry Allen/The Flash, the solo film also stars Kiersey Clemons, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, as well as a host of new and returning DC heroes. Sasha Calle will play the latest incarnation of Supergirl, while Boba Fett's Temuera Morrison will return as Tom Curry, Aquaman's father, as well as Man of Steel's Antje Traue and Michael Shannon, presumably as their characters from the 2013 film.

Directed by Andy Muschietti (IT), with a script by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey), The Flash will also feature two returning Batmen, including Michael Keaton's version from Tim Burton's 1989 Batman and 1992 Batman Returns. Ben Affleck will also reprise his version of the character, which he played in Zack Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. The actor has implied that this will be his last time playing the character, while Keaton is set up to return for more films, including the currently-filming Batgirl with Leslie Grace.

In a new DC Movies trailer (via WB), featuring footage from The Batman, Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash is seen attempting to save his mother, while voice over of Michael Keaton's Batman is playing underneath. Also seen in the footage is Barry Allen flipping a switch in what appears to be The Batcave, as well as a number of looks at his new suit, including a helmet feature that has retractable visors on the eye slits, which is a first for the live-action character. Keaton's Batman is reportedly to be a sort of mentor to Barry in The Flash, and the voice-over dialogue appears to support that, with Batman saying, "You could go to any timeline, any universe. Why fight to save this one?" as Barry is seen approaching his mother. Check out the footage below:

The Flash is expected to set up DCEU's multiverse, which is similar to what Marvel did with Spider-Man: No Way Home. This will allow multiple previous and current characters, actors, settings, etc. to interact and co-exist, giving filmmakers the ability to utilize those assets within their movies. Using the speed force, The Flash is able to travel at speeds that allow a multitude of things to happen, which includes time and inter-dimensional travel, something that has been utilized throughout the comics for decades. However, it featured most prominently in the Flashpoint storyline in 2011, which heavily featured both The Flash and Batman.

Keaton's return as Batman in The Flash is something that fans are greatly anticipating, especially since he'll be playing a major role in the future of the DCEU. While his full reveal in costume has yet to come, there have been plenty of teases to build the hype, including set pics from Batgirl that show his Batman with a Robin (a first for that universe). And older, wiser, and more seasoned Batman embodied by Keaton feels like the perfect guiding light for the DCEU as it progresses into its next evolution, and this latest trailer shows a lot of promise for 2022. The Flash races into theaters in November.
