The Flash: 5 Reasons Why It Will Be Worth The Wait (& 5 Why It Won't) - Screen Rant

The upcoming Flash movie has suffered from pre-production hell. The movie has suffered from changes in directors, changes in scripts, and even through a recent scandal in which Ezra Miller was caught on camera having an altercation with a fan.

That being said, the film appears to be getting back on track for a release and it’s only a matter of time before the Flash makes his way onto the big screen. Here are 5 reasons the movie will be worth the wait and 5 why it probably won't be.

10 Worth The Wait: Ezra Miller

While the two movies in which Ezra Miller’s Flash has appeared, Justice League and Batman v Superman, haven’t been well received; the character as a whole has been received favorably among fans of DC Comics.

Consequently, fans have been excited to see Ezra Miller’s Flash appear in his own DC movie for some time, so this alone is reason enough for fans to get excited.

9 Not: Development Hell

Ezra Miller as the Flash In Batman v Superman's Dream Sequence and Justice League

When a film enters development hell, it can be often difficult for the movie to actually get released. Further, if the film does get released, it is often a haphazard mess that is poorly received among critics.

Due to the changes in directors and several script rewrites, it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that the Flash will also suffer from this development hell.

8 Worth The Wait: Post Snyder Cut

The Snyder Cut has been one of the biggest moments in movies of the last few decades. Never before has there been such a public call for the rerelease of a movie than for Zack Snyder’s version of the Justice League. The release of the Snyder Cut is almost entirely due to the massive fan support for the film.

If the Snyder Cut is a success then this could even have an impact on how the Flash movie treats its story, with the film potentially moving away from several elements in the theatrical cut of Justice League.

7 Not: DCEU Track Record

The problem with getting excited for the release of a DC movie is that the DCEU has a mixed record when it comes to its movies. While this has started to change recently, it will still be difficult to forget the bombs they have dropped on DC fans over the last few years.

While this isn’t a guarantee that the film is going to be bad, it is certainly a realization that fans should approach the film with caution rather than getting carried away by the excitement.

6 Worth The Wait: Andrew Muschietti

IT Theory what the balloons mean

Andrew Muschietti is a talented director who is best known for his work on the two most recent IT movies. The director has a talent for horror movies and this could definitely be interesting to see come through in a Flash movie.

The Flash film is set to draw inspiration on Flashpoint and the horror background of Muschietti could certainly help create a unique superhero movie.

5 Not: It Could Get Pushed Back Again

This film has been stuck in development hell for some time, with plans for a Flash film stretching back to 2010. While the film currently has a release date penned in for some time in 2022, this isn’t etched in stone.

After all, who actually knows what the full effect of the coronavirus pandemic will be. If the effects of the pandemic drag on into 2021, the film may be pushed back further.

4 Worth The Wait: Michael Keaton

Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne in Batman Returns alongside Ezra Miller's Flash in Justice League

Rumors are circulating that the Flash movie is going to bring in Michael Keaton to reprise his role as Batman. Fans have been asking for this for years, so it could turn out to be a masterstroke by DC to bring Keaton on.

Aside from the fact that Keaton may return, this also opens up the idea of a DC Multiverse, allowing the DCEU to create films in the future outside traditional continuity, allowing directors more creative freedom for their movies.

3 Not: Villain Is Unknown

A superhero story is only as entertaining as the villain of the piece. For instance, without his impressive rogues' gallery, Batman would be a far less interesting and far less popular character than he is currently.

Subsequently, until Warner Brothers announce who the villain is going to be there’s no point getting too excited over the film. After all, there’s been several villainous speedsters in the Flash TV series.

2 Worth The Wait: Flashpoint

One of the greatest Flash stories of recent years was Flashpoint, which was a huge event in the DC Comics world, bringing new characters and continuities into the story, most notably Thomas Wayne who took over the mantle as Batman after Bruce was killed in his place.

This is just the kind of story that the Flash needs in his first big-screen solo outing and, as fans love the Flashpoint story, it would certainly lead to excitement among audiences.

1 Not: Too Many Unknowns

The Flash Movie Barry Allen Ezra Miller

While fans know that Ezra Miller is the Flash, Flashpoint will be an inspiration, Muschietti is directing, and Keaton may be returning, not much else is actually known about the film, so it is hard to get too excited.

At the moment, the film has almost limitless potential due to these unknowns, allowing for rampant fan speculation as to what the film will do. That being said, though, it is important not to get too excited until more is revealed about the film.
