The Flash: Barry Allen's Rebirth Always Led to Flashpoint | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

One of Geoff Johns' career-defining runs revolved around DC's resident super speedster, The Flash. During his tenure, Johns brought Barry Allen back to life and was responsible for the time-warping Flashpoint storyline, which led to the New 52.

In an exclusive interview with CBR, Johns briefly touched on his Flash run and confirmed that Flashpoint had always been part of the plan. "Yeah, I'd always envisioned Flashpoint, from The Flash: Rebirth to The Road to Flashpoint to Flashpoint, I kind of had this two-year storyline for Barry that I wanted to tell and that's how the storyline was built. I think that the time-travel and all the emotional fallout of that; it was a really interesting thing to explore for Barry and put him through."

Johns also briefly touched on the legacy aspect to the Green Lantern and Flash mythos, and his contributions to said mythos. "It makes both Flash and Green Lantern unique in their relative worlds, as the Lanterns explore space, I think the Flash legacy stretches across time. So, for me, the build-up from The Flash: Rebirth was always [leading] to Flashpoint."

Flashpoint has influenced several other forms of media featuring the Flash, most notably The Flashpoint Paradox animated film. Elements of the storyline were also used in the third season of The Flash. Current Flash writer Josh Williamson has also touched on the events of Flash Rebirth and Flashpoint during his run.
