Former Flash Movie Directors Support Zack Snyder's Justice League - Screen Rant

The Snyder Cut of the Justice League has received a show of support from a couple of directors tangentially tied to the DC Extended Universe. After years of clamoring for Zack Snyder's version of the superhero film, HBO Max finally decided to bring his vision to life for the new streaming service. Many fans are excited to see what the movie could've been had Snyder stayed on as director and those fans now include the two directors of a scrapped movie for The Flash.

If Justice League was meant to be the magnum opus of the DCEU, a movie centered around the Flashpoint comic was destined to be an important branch on the superhero tree. Unfortunately, the directorial collaboration between Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley never came to fruition, with the two abandoning the project in 2019. Andres Muschietti is now developing a project centered around the character, which isn't set to debut before 2022.

Still, Goldstein and Daley are fans of the DCEU and they're excited to see what the hoopla around the Snyder Cut is all about. In a discussion with The Hollywood Reporter, the directors threw their support behind Snyder. Goldstein was very direct, saying "it's about time" in reference to its arrival. Meanwhile, Daley called the ability of the Snyder Cut to exist and be presented to the public "ultimately good" and a "really good thing" for filmmakers to be able to share their vision with the world, without the influence of studios and producers.

Coming from directors of a stalled project, the shows of support likely echo how the community of filmmakers feels about directors' cutsThe Flash - at least Goldstein and Daley's version of it - never reached a point where the creation of a directors' cut would be possible. But they had a strong vision for what the superhero movie could be, so it only makes sense that they would be curious what somebody else's superhero vision was, especially a project as hyped as the Snyder Cut.

Goldstein and Daley aren't hurting for work after leaving The Flash, as they're now spearheading the Dungeons & Dragons reboot, set for release in 2022. Meanwhile, the Snyder Cut is full speed ahead for HBO Max. Developments seemingly come by the day, including potential plans for reshoots and confirmation that Ray Porter would appear as Darkseid. As more and more information about the Snyder Cut drips out, more members of the DCEU community are going to express their interest in this unprecedented project.
