A Greer woman was arrested this week on charges that she failed to pay taxes as an officer for a local business.
The South Carolina Department of Revenue said Gena Hovanec, 52, was charged Friday with five counts of failing to collect, account for, or pay withholding taxes over five years.
Hovanec was an officer of H&H Electrical Service of Greenville and was responsible for making state withholding tax payments for the business.
For tax tear 2015 through the third quarter of 2019, Hovanec is accused of failing to pay $129,995 in state income taxes withheld from employees’ pay, according to warrants.
If convicted, Hovanec faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine up to $100,000 for each count, plus the cost of prosecution.
Hovanec is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center pending bond.
