The Flash: The 10 Worst Things Hunter Zolomon (AKA Zoom) Did To The Scarlet Speedster - CBR - Comic Book Resources

Hunter Zolomon always wanted to do good in the world, but those good intentions led him down a dark path in his adulthood. After losing his ability to walk, he pleaded with the Flash (then Wally West) to go back in time and prevent Hunter from being paralyzed. Wally refused to mess with time in such a manner, and Hunter attempted to use the Flash's Cosmic Treadmill himself. The resulting malfunction and explosion loosened Hunter's connection to the timestream, allowing Hunter to simulate superspeed by moving time around himself and turning him into the Reverse-Flash, later known as Zoom.

Zolomon has tormented the Flash constantly since then, alternatively wanting to torment the Flash and wanting to replace and do better than the Flash. His hatred remained strong for both Wally West and Barry Allen. So without further delay, here are the 10 worst things that Zoom has done to The Flash.

10 Destroying The Cosmic Treadmill

Destroying the Cosmic Treadmill was Hunter's first sin, and it is one that could have had tremendous consequence. The Cosmic Treadmill is the means by which a Flash can travel through time, and it's been necessary in saving the day on several occasions.

In destroying it, Zolomon took away one of Wally's most powerful and important tools, and it could potentially have meant the end of everything.

9 Convincing Wally To Try & Destroy The Speed Force

More recently, Zoom returned in the Rebirth DC continuity to torment Barry Allen, Wally West, and Wallace West. He manipulated Wally West into trying to destroy the Speed Force, as Hunter claimed that it had imprisoned the other speedsters Wally had known, namely Jay Garrick, Impulse, Jessie Quick, Max Mercury, and others.

This a cruel play on the Flash's emotions, and it convinced him to try and do something that could have untold consequences.

8 Breaking The Force Wall

Later, after several subsequent events which we'll discuss later, Hunter Zolomon was able to destroy the Force Wall, which unleashed several new forces into the DC Universe such as the Still Force, the Strength Force, and the Sage Force.

This led to utter chaos, with the likes of the Trickster getting ahold of the Strength Force. It also unleashed the Black Flash, a death entity connected to the Speed Force. It went on a rampage, attempting to hunt down and kill anyone who became the avatar of one of the new Forces.

7 Joining The Secret Society

While this wasn't a crime against the Flash directly, Zoom's participation in Lex Luthor's Secret Society of Supervillains was an offense to all life on Earth.

Luthor's Secret Society committed untold evil, killing countless human beings and causing untold damage. It was also hijacked by Alexander Luthor of Earth-3 to cause the Infinite Crisis.

6 Forcing Wally To Rewatch Linda Miscarry

Linda Park, Wally West's wife, was to have twins with Wally. However, a calamity occurred that caused her to miscarry those twins.

Zolomon believed that experiencing tragedy creates a better hero, and, during an time-hopping battle, Zoom forced Wally West to watch the moment of Linda's miscarriage repeatedly.

5 Making Wally Believe He Could Have His Children Back

In the build-up to "Flash War," Zoom convinced a mentally vulnerable Wally West that he could help Wally have his kids back (that aforementioned miscarriage was undone by some truly bizarre time manipulation).

Of course, Zoom had no intent in helping Wally to have Jai and Iris back, but he still used this as a pressure point to get Wally on his side.

4 Having Iris West Kidnapped By The Renegades

This time around, Zolomon targeted both Barry Allen and Wally West. Zoom had the Renegades, a 31st Century police force reminiscent of Captain Cold's infamous Rogues, arrest Iris West, Barry's girlfriend and Wally's aunt, and brought to the future for the death of Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash/Professor Zoom.

Iris was responsible for the death of Thawne, but she did so to save Barry. Of course, none of this mattered to Zoom. It was all part of his plan to hurt and manipulate the two Flashes.

3 Creating Kid Zoom

While this one wasn't a direct crime upon the Flash either, Hunter's creation of Kid Zoom was still particularly cruel action. Kid Zoom, aka Thaddeus Thawne, already had a villainous background as "Inertia." He plagued Bart Allen, aka Impulse, in the past.

However, Zolomon took the young rogue under his wing and taught him what he believed to be the constructive power of tragedy. Thaddeus Thawne took this to heart, crippled Zoom, and turned his attentions towards Captain Cold and the Rogues. Inertia took up the name of Kid Zoom during this fight but was killed by the Rogues.

2 Causing The "Flash War"

All of Zolomon's manipulating and controlling of Wally West led to the "Flash War," where Wally West set out to destroy the Speed Force, and Barry Allen had to stop him. The two Flashes had a brutal fight where old wounds were rent open, and it gave Zolomon the opening he needed to destroy the Force Wall.

Wally West never truly recovered from all of this, and it helped lead to the devastating events of Heroes in Crisis.

1 Causing Linda's Miscarriage

Easily the greatest of Zoom's crime against the Flash, Zolomon is the one who actually caused Linda Parke's miscarriage. He believed that tragedy would make Wally West a better Flash. Eobard Thawne, aka Professor Zoom/Reverse-Flash, killed Iris West-Allen during Barry's tenure as the Flash, so Zolomon wanted to mirror this event for Wally.

He used his speed to create a sonic boom that caused Linda to miscarry the twins. As mentioned before, this was undone, but it doesn't erase the cruelty in Zolomon that caused the initial tragedy.
