CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cuyahoga County homeowners might notice something new when they open their property tax bills this summer — a letter from County Executive Armond Budish promising help if they’re struggling to afford their semiannual payment.
The deadline for 2020′s second-half payments was delayed to Aug. 13 due to coronavirus, but the Budish administration anticipates the pandemic will leave many people unable to pay current or delinquent taxes.
To that end, the letter states the county is reaching out “in a genuine effort to discuss your present situation and try to help you through these unprecedented times.”
The mailing includes information about expanded payment plan options, such as the possibility of the Treasurer’s Office offering new delinquent payment contracts for taxpayers who can’t meet the current terms of a delinquent contract.
The county has long offered several options for property owners struggling to pay their bills, but the letter is intended to let people know the county is “here to help you during this time of extreme hardship.”
Taxpayers who want to discuss their individual circumstances, or want more information about payment options should call the Treasurer’s Office on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. General inquiries can be made at 216-443-7420, and people with long-term delinquencies should call 216-443-7698.
The mailing includes details about how to pay online, by phone, mail and drop-box, or at KeyBank and auto title office locations.
Curbside drop-off services are also available Aug. 3 through Aug. 13 at the 900 Prospect Garage, located southeast of the County Administration Building in downtown Cleveland.
People paying in-person at the Treasurer’s Office should expect a coronavirus screening prior to entering the building. There could be some delays due to social-distancing and limited occupancy requirements.
