Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Flash #755
Fans of DC Comics' The Flash most likely knew that the recent alliance between Barry Allen and Eobard Thawne (Reverse-Flash) couldn't last forever. There's simply too much bad blood and suffering that Thawne has caused in Barry's life. The fact that they teamed up at all proves Barry's commitment to the greater good, doing the right thing, and being a hero no matter the cost to his personal feelings. However, fans might not have predicted the manner in which Thawne betrays the Flash in the most recent issue, as well the terrifying tease of new villains to come.
In the last few issues of The Flash, the villain Paradox was using Godspeed, another speedster foe-turned-ally of Flash's, to travel through time and killing as many Flashes across time and space as he could, systemically creating and stacking paradoxes on top of one another until the multiverse would buckle and would be no more. Much to Barry's chagrin, Thawne is the only one to have ever stopped Paradox in the past. Without any other alternative, Barry is forced to find Thawne in the past (sadly, right after Thawne kills Barry's mother) and asks for his help in stopping Paradox. The Reverse-Flash agrees and together they manage to free Godspeed and stop Paradox by saving him in the past before he becomes Paradox, with Thawne himself being the one to do the deed. Rather than murder Paradox in the past like he wanted, Thawne chooses to save him as Barry asked him to do. However, this brief glimmer of positivity in an otherwise negatively charged character is vastly overshadowed by what Reverse-Flash does next immediately after the dust settles.
As soon as things calm down at the end of The Flash #755, Thawne chooses to murder Godspeed right in front of Barry, snapping his neck. In rage and anguish, Flash screams at Thawne that he'll kill him, but Thawne is already on the move, saying that instead of killing him (again), Flash will do what he'll always do after Thawne does something horrible to him: Barry will gather his Flash Family and they'll go after him. However, Thawne says that he's ahead of Barry this time, with a plan that's long been in the works...
Reverse-Flash is going to get his own Reverse-Flash Family to counter Barry's own family. The tag on the final page of the issue claims that the Legion of Zoom is coming soon to the next issues of The Flash, presumedly the name of Thawne's new family. How will Thawne get his own family? Well, it seems as though it won't be in the literal sense (though it would be terrifying to see a Reverse-Iris or Kid Reverse-Flash). Instead, something arguably worse will be at play, with Thawne uniting the worst villains and rogues the Flash has ever faced, including Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, The Turtle, and The Trickster. Working together as one unit against Barry Allen might just be more than the single speedster can handle. Fans will have to wait and see as the Legion Of Zoom story arc begins in The Flash.
