More flash flooding hits Iron County - fox13now.com

IRON COUNTY, Utah — Cedar City and the area around it is again being hit with rain, hail and flash flooding.

WATCH: Heavy rain, flooding hits Wasatch Front, Tooele area

An official Flash Flood Warning was issued for Cedar City, Enoch and Summit through 6:45 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service also issued a "Flash Flood Emergency" for the area.

"This is a life threatening situation. Seek higher ground NOW. If the vehicle stalls, leave it immediately. Rising water may engulf the vehicle and sweep it away," the NWS wrote on Twitter.

The NWS also announced that more rain was expected to hit the area around 6:30 p.m. The latest updates and alerts can be found on the NWS Twitter account and website.

Flooding has been seen and reported in the area Sunday afternoon, as well as nickel-to-quarter-sized hail. (Additional photos and videos can be viewed in the gallery at the top of this article.)

I-15 through Cedar City was temporarily closed in both directions. It has since been reopened, but the Utah Department of Transportation says delays are still possible.

"Never drive over flooded roads...just don't do it!" the National Weather Service tweeted.

There were also thousands of homes without electricity, mainly in and near Enoch. Around 6:30 p.m., Rocky Mountain Power reported 3,358 customers affected by multiple outages. By about 8 p.m., all but 30 had been restored.

Residents who need help, as well as those looking to help with sandbags and other efforts, have been communicating on a Cedar City/Iron County community Facebook page.

Another Flash Flood Warning is also in place for "mainly rural areas" in southeastern Emery, northeastern Garfield and eastern Wayne counties. It includes State Route 95 between mileposts 6 and 24, Poison Springs Canyon, Moonshine Wash, and additional tributaries of the Dirty Devil River. It lasts until 9 p.m.

Capitol Reef National Park was also hit by flash flooding earlier in the day.

Cedar City and other parts of Iron County have been hit hard by rainstorms in the past several days, which have led to heavy flash flooding and major damage to some homes and property.

FOX 13 will provide updates on the developing situation online and on the air, with Good Day Utah starting Monday morning at 4:30 a.m.
