Flash flooding possible on Saturday throughout the Outer Banks - Island Free Press

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are forecast across eastern North Carolina for much of Saturday, per a recent update from the National Weather Service Newport / Morehead City office.

A widespread 1-2 inches of rain is expected throughout the Outer Banks, while localized amounts of more than four inches of rain are possible. Given the already saturated soils, localized flash flooding is possible on Saturday for much of eastern North Carolina. Additionally, a few stronger thunderstorms tomorrow could produce damaging wind gusts.

Deep ponding on roads will make for hazardous driving conditions, so please use caution if traveling. As of Friday, standing water from recent rains was reported on multiple locations of N.C. Highway 12, including on Ocracoke Island, Hatteras village, the Tri-villages community of Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo, and Pea Island.
