The Flash: What Sue's Return Means For Season 7 (Will She Join The Team?) - Screen Rant

Sue Dearbon (Natalie Dreyfuss) has returned to The Flash, which raises questions about what the series has planned for her character. An unfortunate consequence of the firing of Hartley Sawyer was that Sue was written off the show along with Ralph Dibney at the beginning of the new season. Sue was brought onboard The Flash in season 6 to adapt a long-missing part of Elongated Man’s story. In the comics, Ralph’s relationship with his wife, Sue Dearbon, is integral to his character.

The Flash was seemingly on its way to building the Arrowverse version of their dynamic when Sawyer was fired over controversial tweets from his past. So in season 7, The Flash handled this problem by sending both characters off together. It was explained that after spending some time in hiding, the two decided to travel the world and battle villainous organizations in the same vein as Black Hole. To the surprise of viewers, in The Flash season 7, episode 13, titled “Masquerade”, Sue re-entered the fold after getting a call for help from Chester (Brandon McKnight).

The end of the episode opened the door for Sue to have an extended presence in season 7 with her comment about being able to stick around while Ralph is busy. This remark suggests that she’ll be around for a few episodes, but not for the entire season. However, that doesn’t mean becoming a full-time member is off the table. It’s worth noting that her fun team-up with Team Flash has already led to an interest in seeing her join the team on a permanent basis, which could be part of the point of her return to Central City. It’s possible that if Sue’s role receives a good response, the series will increase her presence on the show going forward.

Right now, the expectation is that Sue will eventually reunite with Ralph off-screen, but that doesn’t have to happen. It could be that depending on where The Flash season 7 goes with the story for its remaining episodes, Sue could decide not to go back to wherever Ralph is in the Arrowverse. Instead, she could begin working with Team Flash in an official capacity. If so, the show would need to offer another reason why Ralph isn’t coming back.

Sue could be a unique and formidable addition to The Flash’s team of heroes. Her assistance in the heist went a long way in proving her worth, and it doesn’t matter that she doesn’t have any real superpowers. In contrast to Team Arrow, the rapidly-diminishing Team Flash doesn’t have members who can go out in the field and do action without metahuman abilities, but that can change if it keeps Sue. It would be interesting to see Sue use her natural skills to contribute to the team in a meaningful way. Plus, making her a part of the team will allow The Flash to make the most of its Hartley Sawyer situation. His firing prevented them from finishing its Ralph-Sue story, but it may not need Ralph to have fun with Natalie Dreyfuss’ character.
