The Flash season 8 sets a November premiere date on The CW. Starring Grant Gustin as the titular speedster, The Flash helped turn the Arrowverse into a proper television franchise when it premiered in 2014. The series branched off of flagship show Arrow and focused on Barry Allen's adventures in Central City. Now that Arrow has come to an end, The Flash is the Arrowverse's longest running show. Season 7 commenced earlier this year after being pushed back by the coronavirus pandemic; with 18 episodes planned, it will be The Flash's shortest season yet.
The Flash season 7 kicked off with the completion of season 6's Mirrorverse storyline before plunging into a new arc involving Barry's new Speed Force. The new episodes have brought some major changes to Team Flash, with stars Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes departing after being a part of the show since the very beginning. Just as they've taken their bows, though, The Flash plans to introduce Bart Allen, aka Impulse (Jordan Fisher), and bring back Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) for the show's 150th episode.
Though The Flash has yet to complete season 7, The CW is already looking ahead to season 8. On Tuesday, the network unveiled its fall 2021 schedule (via TVLine) and confirmed The Flash will return on Tuesday, November 16 at 8pm. It will be followed by Riverdale season 5. Fellow Arrowverse shows Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow will return in October.
The Flash was renewed for season 8 earlier this year. As the show is only about halfway through its current season, little is known about the next. However, CW chairman Mark Pedowitz previously revealed The Flash season 8 will start with 5 crossover-type episodes that will see various Arrowverse characters pop up in Central City. Beyond that, fans will have to wait for the end of the current arc to get a hint of what's to come in The Flash's future.
As evidenced by the November premiere, The Flash is still dealing with the affects of the coronavirus pandemic. The series normally debuts in October, but since season 7 didn't premiere until March, it's operating on an adjusted schedule. Luckily, this means that fans will get a shorter than normal hiatus, which will surely come as a relief after the extended wait for season 7. It remains to be seen how many episodes The Flash season 8 will have, but there will definitely be plenty more adventures for Barry and his team in the future. They'll just kick off a little later than expected.
The Flash season 7 continues Tuesdays on The CW.
