WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Flash Season 7, Episode 12, "Good-Bye Vibrations," which aired Tuesday on The CW.
The Arrowverse spent years teasing the major crossover event "Crisis on Infinite Earths." From namedropping Harbinger to introducing the multiverse itself, the team behind the TV universe perfectly crafted the adventure that concluded early last year. But while the creative team tried its best to stay within the confines of the comic saga, they were limited in their character roster. In fact, there was one major Crisis villain that was teased back in the "Elseworlds" crossover that never got the opportunity to shine: Psycho-Pirate. Fortunately, this villain appears is going to make his presence felt in Season 7 of The Flash.
Psycho-Pirate was a pivotal part of the Crisis on Infinite Earths comic story, working alongside the Anti-Monitor to bring down the multiverse with the promise of a universe all to himself. The villain's abilities allow him to manipulate the emotions of others with the use of his mask, and he used them to manipulate Barry Allen into acting as a battery to keep the last three universes alive. Unfortunately for Psycho-Pirate, Barry managed to escape and used his speed to save the multiverse from crumbling into nothingness. After the event, the villain was one of the only humans to retains his memories, which led to him being placed in a psychiatric ward.
While the Arrowverse's "Crisis" did include a version of Barry Allen powering a generator and using his speed to prevent the collapse of the multiverse, his comic captor was nowhere to be seen. Psycho-Pirate actually made his first Arrowverse appearance in the previous crossover, Elseworlds, during a prison break, and he would go on tease the next season's massive event at the end of the three-episode story. Many expected him to return for the next crossover, but that didn't come to fruition, leaving the character's future up in the air.
Now, in The Flash Season 7, Episode 12, "Good-Bye Vibrations" the Pirate's mask makes a return, staring back at Cecil Horton as she follows an ominous voice. The DA-turned-defense attorney has been getting a front-row seat of the action as Team Flash runs into more and more emotion-based baddies, starting with Psych, the Sage Force and Rainbow Raider 2.0. The teaser for next week's episode promises to show Cecil trapped in her mind as Psycho-Pirate takes over her body, trapping Barry inside with her. Cecil's empathy has helped Team Flash deal with some of their most dangerous villains, but if the villain has control of the defense attorney, her greatest strength might become their greatest weakness. And if the show takes inspiration from the comics, Psycho-Pirate might place blame on Barry for causing the fall of the multiverse and enact revenge on the speedster, using one of his greatest allies against him.
The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh. New episodes air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
