As The Flash and DC's other speedsters' know all too well, time is a malleable force in the DC Universe that can be molded and shaped at will. The timeline within each universe is balanced precariously in the midst of raging chronal currents. In some such cases, heroes from a time long gone may find themselves reborn in an era foreign to them, thrust into events they can barely fathom. In the year 3000, Teri Magnus, one of the future's Wonder Twins, learns what can happen when the timeline is tampered with.
In Justice League 3000 by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and Howard Porter, the universe is in upheaval. The evil organization known as the Five have complete control of the universe, enslaving planet after planet within a hive mind collective known as the Convert. Scattered resistances have attempted to stop the Five, but all have been eliminated with extreme prejudice. But there is hope: a secret experiment has been undertaken by Teri and Terry Magnus, the Wonder Twins of the year 3000 to revive the Justice League by using DNA samples that have been saved and guarded for millennia. The only problem, though, is that the new Justice League is very different from the one of the past.
Lacking their original histories and motivations, the new Justice League is immature, arrogant, and brash. Wonder Woman thirsts for blood while Superman is a narcissistic egotist. As events surrounding the new Justice League continue to spiral further and further out of control, the worst revelation yet hits the team square in the stomach: Terry, Teri's brother, was actually the founder of The Five. To prove his sincerity, Terry snaps his sister's neck to the horror of all watching. Despite Teri seeming very much dead, Ariel Masters, the head of the Justice League revival program, had secretly copied Teri's DNA and mixed it with The Flash's (who had been killed, cloned, and then killed again.) Ultimately, The Flash lived for a third time, this time as Teri Magnus with the power of the Speed Force.
As the Flash of the future, Teri had a lot to learn. However, Teri eventually a solid addition to the team and a good hero of her own merit. A hero's work is never done, and that remains true despite the century they live in. Jaime Reyes, Blue Beetle, and apprentice to Ted Kord, of the 21st century, is surprised out of his mind when Teri knocks on his door one night. Through the use of the cosmic treadmill, a device capable of sending Speedsters through time and space, Teri journeys to her past and ends up staying.
Teri Magnus has lived and fought through multiple centuries worth of danger and heartbreak. To be betrayed by her own brother, resurrected as The Flash, and then to fight through her century and all the way to the past, Teri has significant experience under her belt. Although Teri faded into the background of the DCU not too long after arriving, it seems safe to think that Teri has earned her place in the Justice League, where she can stand shoulder to shoulder with the greatest heroes of any time.
