The Arrowverse is full of speedsters thanks to The Flash, but which one is the fastest? Over the course of six seasons, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) has encountered a large number of characters with powers similar to his. Barry discovered as early as season 1 that he’s not the only person capable of tapping into the Speed Force.
Many of the speedsters Barry has encountered are villains who considered themselves to be superior to Barry, such as Reverse-Flash (played by both Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher), Zoom (Teddy Sears), and Savitar. Other speedsters have acted as allies to Barry in his adventure in the Arrowverse. Over the years, the Flash has enjoyed team-ups with heroic speedsters like Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), Jesse Quick (Violett Beane), and XS (Jessica Parker Kennedy), who have learned a few things about speed from working with Barry and the team at S.T.A.R. Labs.
Out of all the speedsters, the fastest is unsurprisingly Barry Allen. He, of course, has a lot of competition, and though his top speed in season 1 barely compares to what many of the others can do, Barry is capable of keeping up with them all by season 6. He was originally slower than both Zoom and Reverse-Flash, but was able to defeat both of them — using a combination of speed and strategy — in his final battle with Zoom in season 2 and his fight with Eobard in season 3. As for villain speedster Savitar, Barry can’t match him while inside the Speed Force, but in any other place Barry is faster than him as well. Perhaps the villain with the best chance of catching him is Black Flash, who was able to do just that in season 3. However, Barry’s speed has come a long way with since then. There’s a good chance that he could escape from the Black Flash if they ever encountered each other again.
The largest hurdle Barry faces heading into season 7 is the death of the Speed Force, the entity that gives many speedsters their power in the Arrowverse. If the Speed Force is not somehow revived in the earlier episodes of season 7, Barry will no longer be the "fastest man alive" — instead, that honor would go to either Reverse Flash, who is powered by his own Negative Speed Force and is currently alive inside of Nash Wells, or Godspeed, who uses the drug Velocity-9. Barry is constantly getting faster, and one of the biggest contributing factors to the gains he’s made stems from the many months that he spent trapped in the Speed Force in the gap between the season 3 finale and the season 4 premiere. Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp) was in the same predicament, but he’s still not as fast as the Scarlet Speedster. Though Jay is wiser and more experienced, his ageing body holds him back. This was made clear when Jay wasn’t able to remain in Flashtime as long as Barry and the others.
In the comic books, Barry is slower than Wally, but that’s not the case in the Arrowverse. Scenes with the speedsters running together prove that Wally, XS, and Jesse Quick aren’t able to run on Barry’s level, or at least not yet. As The Flash continues to progress, the gap between Barry and the other speedsters keeps getting bigger. Crisis on Infinite Earths widened it further when Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) used his Spectre powers to give Barry a seemingly permanent boost. Presently, Barry is extremely limited in terms of his speed, but if he can build an artificial Speed Force and regain his speed, Barry will remain the fastest character in the Arrowverse.
