The Flash Fan Art Imagines Nicolas Cage's Superman Joining The DCEU - Screen Rant

A new piece of DC Extended Universe fan art imagines Nicolas Cage's Superman cameoing in The Flash movie. The DCEU's new multiverse model will allow for both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck to play Batman in the upcoming film. As such, many fans have speculated about what other heroes could fly by.

In an idea that reflects the star’s massive online popularity, Cage’s Superman is near the top of that list. Cage was meant to play the heroic Kryptonian in the ‘90s film revival Superman Lives – a project that was ultimately cancelled due to a number of creative and production problems. The movie, written by comics superfan Kevin Smith and set to be directed by Tim Burton, would have relaunched the Superman character. This would have come after the success of Burton’s Batman films in the early ‘90s and Cage’s 1995 Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas. Cage is famously a massive fan of Superman.

In a stunning new piece of fan art, Instagram-based artist britedit shows an aged, bearded Cage assuming the role of Clark Kent. The piece features a beautiful black-and-silver rendition of the classic Superman outfit and a wizened, contemplative Cage. It’s a fun imagining of what a cameo from the National Treasure star could look like in the DCEU and a gorgeous, elegant Superman design in its own right.

This artist's piece isn’t the only recent Cage Superman fan art, as a growing number of comic enthusiasts are gathering around the idea of the eccentric actor finally appearing as Clark Kent in live action. Cage got to play the character in animated form in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, but surely the man who loves Superman so much that he named his son Kal-El would be happy to reclaim the role in the DCEU for any amount of time. Cage’s wild, over-the-top performance style – a trademark that’s garnered him a sizable online following – would certainly be an intriguing addition to the franchise.

Whether Cage ultimately returns to Metropolis or not, the art from britedit is a great glimpse into the multiverse. The Flash will be a transformative movie for DC, allowing the company to finally explore alternate versions of many heroes. The possibilities are virtually endless, and it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that a Superman other than Henry Cavill could show up in The Flash. However, moviegoers will have to wait and see if Superman makes an appearance at all, let alone played by Cage.
