WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for "Liberation," the latest episode of The Flash, which aired Tuesday on The CW.
For the first half of Season 6 of The Flash, Barry Allen and his friends dealt with the threat of Ramsey Rosso, aka Bloodwork. In an attempt to cure a rare blood disorder, Ramsey used dark matter in his trials and ended up transforming himself into a monster. His superpowers made him stronger, and he was also able to infect others and take control of them entirely so as to create an army of zombie-like drones. Bloodwork proved a formidable villain for the Scarlet Speedster -- especially when he was able to infect Barry himself and transform him into the Negative Flash.
Eventually however, Barry returned to the side of good, and he defeated Ramsey. Now, for the past few months, Team Flash has been dealing with Black Hole and the new Mirror Master. But in the series' latest episode, "Liberation," Bloodwork returned to show he wasn't done being a threat. And worse still, he's planning something sinister.
In "Liberation," Eva McCulloch sent her mirror doubles to the A.R.G.U.S. detention facility where Bloodwork is being kept. The new Mirror Master intends to collect a drop of Ramsey's blood to open a portal that will allow her to escape the dimension she has been trapped in for years. The mirror doubles offer Ramsey his freedom in exchange for his blood -- and he accepts. Only, Bloodwork shows he's got an elaborate plan of his own in the works when he chooses to remain in his cell.
Ramsey isn't convinced he will be able to escape A.R.G.U.S. with their help -- besides, he says he's playing a "long game," one that calls for him to remain in his prison for the time being. It's a brief return for the villain, but one that promises he is far from done with the Flash. What could he be planning?
It's impossible to know for certain, but perhaps Ramsey installed some sort of fail-safe before the Flash defeated him -- pieces that are still in motion while he is imprisoned. For instance, the villain was able to infect Barry Allen, and briefly transform him into an evil version of himself. Of course, Barry was able to fight off the infection and return to his normal self, but what if there is still a piece of Ramsey in his system? If that is the case, then the villain could be plotting to bring back Negative Flash -- and maybe even make Barry's transformation more permanent.
What's more, given Ramsey's abilities to take control of others, he might have had other drones infected when he was incarcerated. Therefore, he could still have people under his control out there, doing his bidding -- perhaps creating an even bigger army, or getting ready to take his villainy on a global scale.
Whatever Ramsey is up to, chances are it's not anything good. Although he was defeated before the mid-season, he may return as an even bigger threat before Season 6 comes to a close. Either that or his plan will stretch out into Season 7, where he will continue to be an overarching villain.
Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet and Hartley Sawyer.
