'The Flash': [Spoiler] Will Return in Season 7 - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

The Flash has woven together several interconnected stories this season. With just two episodes left in The Flash Season 6, it will be impossible to wrap up every loose end that is dangling. The Flash star, Grant Gustin, already confirmed that fans are in for a big cliffhanger in the finale. The showrunner, Eric Wallace, went a step further and teased what’s to come in season 7, including the return of a certain fan-favorite character.

‘The Flash’ Season 6 will end on a cliffhanger

In anticipation of the season 6 finale, Gustin has dished about a major cliffhanger ending. Adding to the excitement, Wallace spoke with CBR and told the outlet this about the final story arc of The Flash Season 6:

Well, our season finale obviously has changed now, because we didn’t finish filming the last three episodes of the season. We were a 22-episode show, so suddenly, episode 19 has become the de-facto season 6 finale.

Here’s the good news, though. The way I like to break seasons of television is, I like to look at them as big movies. So, I look at graphic novel number two, which is what we’re in the middle of now, as a movie with a three-act structure: Act One, Act Two, Act Three.

That’s exactly what the end of this season, fortunately for us, has become, because episode 6.19 was the end of Act Two. So, it ends with our heroes at their lowest point, but realizing there’s a little light at the end of the tunnel. There will be a little cliffhanger.

It is anyone’s guess which stories will be left hanging at the end of season 6. Will Barry’s speed continue to fade, or will Team Flash succeed in building an artificial Speed Force to restore his full super speed? Will Iris, Kamilla, and Singh escape the Mirrorverse, or will they remain trapped until season 7? Will the threats of Eva and Black Hole bleed into the next season? How will Caitlin’s mother play into Frost’s recovery, and will her issue be resolved by the end of the finale?

Reverse-Flash will return in season 7

Although many questions remain, one thing is assured: Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash, will make a comeback. The Flash’s nemesis was initially slated to return at the end of season 6, but the production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic derailed those plans. However, Wallace gave CBR this bit of good news regarding Thawne’s reappearance at a later date:

Now we’ve gotten Thawne to his next stage. He’s out there Voldemorting. We’re now no longer able to do [our original plan] in the last two episodes of the season.

But don’t worry! No fear! That gets rolled into next season. So we’ll have to finish the Black Hole storyline and find a different way to weave in the Thawne stuff.

Now, having said that, I know what you’re thinking, “Well, I’m disappointed, Eric. I love Reverse-Flash. I love Thawne. There’s got to be a way to give us what we want this season!”

Well, I am happy to report we did come up with a very crazy solution that now, in the — how shall I say it? Not in the season finale, but perhaps soon thereafter. It gets resolved in a way that I think fans of the Reverse-Flash are going to just giggle with delight.
